Guest guest
Our doctor keeps Cole in Cast for 2 months so about 9-10 weeks. Nora's dr keeps hers on for 6 to 8 weeks in between changes. Since our sponsoring temple is making cutbacks, I'm wondering if her dr will agree to keeping it on for a few more weeks at a time? > > Tonya Perkins > Asheboro,NC > ,11 > Nora,3,acid reflux >

Guest guest
Bex was getting his casts changed every 9-10 weeks, but we are now going 3 months on this one. My posts are often going to spam, hope this gets through! Guest guest
I just found where I had read it! It's in Dr. ' Medical Journal article. Here's what it says: " We base our cast changes on the child's growth rate with changes every 2 months for those aged 2 years and below, 3 months for those age 3 years, and 4 months for those age 4 years and above. "

Guest guest
Tonya,I don't know if anyone responded or not (behind on posts) and a lot of posts are going to my spam folder but our doc said that once Isabella hit 3, we could go a little longer between cast changes. Right now, we are at every 8 weeks. I think he said we could go 10 to 12 weeks. Guest guest
I just wanted to chime in since I haven't read any responses so far that addressed a child's outgrowing the cast. Todd outgrew his casts almost every single time. Our doc originally would schedule Todd's next cast before we left hospital with the newest one, but after a few times of having to move the date due to his outgrowing the cast, the doc switched to having us call to schedule when Todd would get within a couple of weeks of being too miserable! He spent about 6 weeks in each cast, once or twice a little longer, but never more than 8 weeks. The one time he almost made it to 8 weeks, we ended up having to get the cast removed almost on a emergency basis--would have been, but it was during office hours and our local ortho took it off--because Todd was unable to eat. We had a great situation with our hospital because scheduling was so easy. I know from reading others' posts that is not the case everywhere. I recall one family who went to a different hospital having lots of trouble with their child outgrowing the cast, but being unable to get rescheduled soon enough. BTW, they have been telling us for about 2 and a half years that Todd's growth will slow down soon. LOL, it hasn't slowed noticeably yet, and every time we go, they are amazed at how much he's grown since the last visit! Good luck in your situation, All the best, , Mommy to Todd Just wondering the average length of time that most kids stay in one cast? Nora's dr keeps hers on for 6 to 8 weeks in between changes.
