OH NO!!!! He can't be sick....he can't be sick. Just keep telling yourself that over and over. I pray he is not so you will have that break with him to adjust to the cast.To answer one of your questions in an email......I did go up a diaper size at one point. Some do some don't. You just have to be careful that it could backfire on you if he really needs a bigger diaper to fill up. Does he still drink a bottle before bedtime? I had to really start watching what had to drink before bed. Keep us posted on how he is.......praying right now that he is still good to go on the 22nd! Thank you! As the days pass, I am getting more nervous, normal, I know. We are taking looonnnng baths each night and running all over the place. Drue has been walking since 9 months, so I am hoping that is going to help him adjust. He also is used to chasing his four year old brother around, so I think that'll give him some incentive to get up and go! I am worried now because yesterday he started getting a snotty nose. I am a teacher and we are going to be on break for two weeks, I REALLY don't want to put off the casting the 22nd. So now I am praying his nose clears up, and this doesn't postpone things. I just wanted to say welcome to CAST! I'm sure many others have responded (I"m 2 days behind on posts) so I won't say much until I read the other posts and add anything if needed. I will say that I really can't tell you what an adjustment it will be since your child is so much younger than mine. Some of the younger kids have problems learning to do things again but my daughter was already walking so she wasn't affected too much by the cast. She was a bit top heavy at first. Everyone on here has different stories on how things went but I will say that, for us, things have been pretty easy to adjust to. Our biggest issue was the diapering, but once someone explained the easiest way to do it, there wasn't a problem... it's just annoying. The only other thing is not being able to bathe her but we've gotten used to that too. I wanted to wish you luck on the 22nd and if I can be of any help, let me know.

Just know, we are all here for you!!! Patty, mom of Isabella, 2 years old, in 3rd cast (Rochester) & mom to & Evan

Hi, I am , mommy to Tryston, 4, and Drue, 13 months. My husband, Jimmy, and I are new to the group and the whole infantile scoliosis conditions. It went like most of your stories, from "let's watch it" to "We have to cast NOW". At 10 months, Drue's spine was at 36 degrees with ribs at 14. Things looked good for correction. Three months later, he is at 39 with ribs up to 35. We go for our first cast on the 22nd. I know my dr. is wonderful, I've talked to others that have dealt with him. I am just nervous about the casting, how Drue will adjust, diaper changing, more than there is room to mention here. If anyone has any suggestions about anything, pertaining to treatment, care, adjustments Drue will have to make next week, we'd love any feedback. I have learned so much over the weekend that I didn't know by finding ISOP. I have read tons of articles, tips, and stories that have

helped me greatly, but you know the fears that we have even having some knowledge. I know this has to be done now and this is the best thing we can do for baby Drue, a minor bump in the road compared to probably numerous broken bones that two brothers will encounter. I am so happy I am part of this group. I've already spoken with one mom that has given me her time to answer some of my questions. She was a blessing to me last night, answering my contiuous questions. She encouraged me to post as soon as possible, so....here we are!

Thank you in advance for any advice, encouragement you have to offer!

Thanks for your support. Oh, and I hope you are having a great holiday season! and JimmyMommy and daddy to Tryston, 4, Drue, 13 monthsDrue's first cast Dec. 22St. Louis

Thanks, he has some icky drainage in the morning, but it seems to run clear the rest of the day. We'll just have to wait and see, hopefully by Tuesday, he'll be clear. Our biggest issue was the diapering, but once someone explained the easiest way to do it, there wasn't a problem... it's just annoying. The only other thing is not being able to bathe her but we've gotten used to that too. I wanted to wish you luck on the 22nd and if I can be of any help, let me know.

I just wanted to say welcome to CAST! I'm sure many others have responded (I"m 2 days behind on posts) so I won't say much until I read the other posts and add anything if needed. I will say that I really can't tell you what an adjustment it will be since your child is so much younger than mine. Thanks, I am making myself sick. Still no fever, but still icky nose. We have to call in the a.m. before we head out to let them know how his nose and cough are. He seemed good tonight, occassional cough, with clear drainage. We'll see tomorrow. Thank you to all that have wished us luck, prayers, and talked me through this so far. You sound like me, I make myself sick, too! Our little guy had a runny nose and cough leading up to the cast change and it was fine. I think it's mostly about having clear lungs.

We ARE here for you.!!! Really, truly, vent or tell us your joy or anything else- I will check this group at least once a day throught the holidays. Ask questions and do NOT feel alone!!! Dad is welcome here, too, if he wants to be. We're all in the same or similar boats, and we just want to give you whatever advice you might need at any given point, or a shoulder to lean on...

This IS a big deal, especially to go though this during the holidays, don't let anyone tell you any different. You are being wonderful, loving, intelligent, pro-active parents, and you are on the road to saving your boy's spine and future. It's a BIG DEAL, and you are brave and strong parents. Bless your family and especially Drue. Time is on your side.

Best wishes,

Heidi, Bexon's Mama, (2 and a half years old, in 5th cast from Salt Lake City Shriners, currently down from 61 degrees to 23)

,

Still no fever, but still icky nose. We have to call in the a.m. before we head out to let them know how his nose and cough are. He seemed good tonight, occassional cough, with clear drainage. We'll see tomorrow. Thank you to all that have wished us luck, prayers, and talked me through this so far.
