It's a great idea, except I had a dance student who had a diabetic device like that, and it clicked and whirred all the way through dance class. She found it to be a nuisance physically if she was doing any extreme activity.

How was the meeting?

The meeting went really well, but we didn't connect up until

eight o'clock. The two people were inside, and as promised, I

was sitting in the courtyard. But, they finally found me.

I thought I'd looked around the room pretty carefully, but I managed

to miss them anyway.

We had a lovely time and just talked about the basics of thyroid

issues and swapped information regarding local doctors. The next

thing I would like to do this week is coordinate our second meeting,

at a location and time of the group's preference. I would also

like to set up our field trip to the farmer's market.

One of the owners of Candlelight was hyperthyroid and is now

hypothyroid. She stopped in to chat, and even though I knew her

for a long time, I didn't realize that she was still having massive

medication problems. I am going to invite her to join us for our

next meeting.

The Texas Thyroid group is the best thing that has happened to me

since I got sick. Thank you so much for starting this

forum.

Sorry I didn't write sooner; this weekend my mother and husband

threw me a party (well, I sort of threw myself one) for my 30th

birthday. It is the most activity I have done since I got sick--

with some help, I cooked and cleaned and did a whole bunch of stuff.

The process felt absolutely invigorating, even though I am exhuasted

now.

As a side note, four of my twenty guests were hypothyroid.

Two of the guests were people I had never met before-- they are all

having problems with either doctors or medications.

Best wishes--

Courtenay.

I stood up my Shomon book on the table. Next time,

however, I am going to wear a thyroid t-shirt.

It's been great to help put together the local group. The

people who came, Ina and Eva, were wonderful. I cannot wait for

us, and maybe more, to get together again.

You may wish to plce a sign on the table, especially

if you are expecting folks who don't know you.

Thank you for heading up the SA

group!

Oooh. I want to see pictures of that belt! Maybe a

thyroid bowtie would work for me? Or is that too tacky?

My new t-shirt is going to say on the front:

THIS IS WHAT A THYROID PROBLEM LOOKS LIKE

and on the back:

GET TESTED

One lady on About Thyroid made herself a " goiter

belt " to wear for Hallowe'en. She used nylon stockings, stuffed

realistic looking goiter shapes, and hung them on her belt. Talk about

scary! Maybe you could make yourself one to wear for identification. .

My sister lives in San and has been having all kinds of trouble with what I've been strongly considering to be thyroid problems, for the last year or so, that have come to a head in the last 6 months or so. Wish I could just get her to go listen in, but she just hasn't done it. I hate sitting back watching, but noone will listen to me. She's 42 now, has had a hyst a few yrs ago, and has been having every symptom related to thyroid, plus is in premenopause, but I'm praying she will now do something about it.

The way it't getting, I've seriously thought about having a medic alert bracelet made for myself, with the words "Hashimoto's Disease---Hypothyroid----No goitrous Drugs Given----Only Armour Thyroid Given" on it, just in case anything happens to me, where I can't speak for myself. Do you think that would be carrying it a little too far? I know I don't think so.

You've given me the idea, Courtnay. Now I want to find someone around here who prints them out.

Is she scared to get tested? Has your own situation made

her less inclined to get tested?

Several of my friends have gotten tested as a result of my

illness.

I was going to use the craft store letters, but I also thought

about having one monogrammed. If you find a good deal, let me

know!

Why don't you just embroider one? If would certainly keep you busy! :o)

No, not scared, just oblivious. Like so many, she takes the word of medical maninstream and because of psychiatric counselling, thinks it's all in "her head". Hasn't made the familial connection yet, as I didn't for a long long time. I sent her the names of a couple of doctors there and talked to her extensively, but some people are very turned off by this type of counselling, as it is yet a far far thing from their understanding yet. She has good insurance, but whether any of these doctors are on her insurance is unbeknownest to me, plus I've gotten no response back from her. She says it is yrs of stress, and saying yes, it is, but I can't make her understand that connection to this disease and having a strong family history of autoimmune diseases, including thyroid, Type II Diabetes, psoriasis, Graves, and myriads of other folks in the family who have these things. One even committed suicide and did have thyroid disease, that I know of.

No way will I EVER embroider, lol, it just isn't in me to do this type of handwork. I get too fidgety doing this sort of thing, hehe.

I'm having similar trouble with one of my sisters. I'm concerned about her because she has Graves disease and her endocrinologist wants her to have RAI. I sent her links about that and all kinds of information and asked her to get her test results and send them to me so maybe I could post them but she doesn't seem to care or want to listen or anything. I think she thinks just blindly follow the doctor's orders and everything will be okay. She also has a lot of stress and chronic marriage trouble, depression, anxiety, etc. and I'm afraid she's thinking this treatment will cure everything. Well, I'm afraid it will just be the beginning if she goes this route. But I can't convince her. I can't even convince her that she must fast for cholesterol and glucose testing. What can you do besides hope and pray that everything will turn out okay?

That is something I would love to do, if I had more time~ actually, it was a joke. But I LOVE your t-shirt idea!

Because I am really crummy with all sewing-related crafts. It's a nice thought, though.

I will let you know when I have been able to pick up the

letters. (Too broke this month.)

Strangely enough, I have been thinking about sewing lately, and I

have wanted to give it another crack. I studied fashion design

in college for two years, and then went on to become a fashion

stylist/writer for several years after college. (I am writing

fashion for a magazine now.) And I'd like to sew, but I learned

to sew on deadline. I have no idea what it is like to sew for

pleasure.

Please feel free to steal the t-shirt idea.

Best--

I know. Just pray and hope that understanding will happen, though it may be the hard way. I used to be very much into doctor worship, yrs ago.
