Good afternoon- some of you guys asked me to share our experience. I wanted to share it while they still had some open slots available for the summer (I think they only have two more)

Today was our last day of sensory learning in the clinic... (We just left)- we still have 18 days of home programming.

First of all, it has not all been a walk in the park- some lights caused issues for Colter. Nothing we had not experienced before- it's just like the first day back after Christmas break. Luckily, we have not regressed - only downfall has been much more "movie talk" - blah but different lines and full body acting it out. On certain days (the reds and blues we had more movie talk than other days).

Improvements to name a few... I could go on for days

1. Asking Questions (without the who, what , where, do) ie want to be Mike? want to be sulley? (leaving off DO YOU) however it is a question and I am taking it. We had a conversation

C "Mom-want to be mike?"

M "No"

C "want to be sulley?"

M "yes"

Colter acted like Mike- and looked at me when it was sulley's turn to speak.

I would also count this as pretend play/ role playing

2. Much more affectionate- he even grabbed Hayden's hand. He wanted to snuggle- would jump in bed with us and snuggle us- not the other way around. He is also petting our faces and looking at us with much more purpose.

3. Much more language. Complete sentences " I want to go to the clinic" "color Mike's foot green." "print out mike on green paper, yes"

4. Much more compliant- one time request- and that is it (approx 85% vs 10% prior)

5. Referencing- Big daddy change- he has improved so much...

6. Much calmer- will sit and play with a toy (which is what he is doing now- he played legos the other day for the 1st time- Much calmer- this is my favorite.

I will end there- but I have taken notes everyday-and video taped when we thought about it- living in this new found world. I will say- any bad stuff we have seen during this process - is stuff we usually see every couple of months- "movie talk" a little bit of "toe walking".

We are pleased beyond belief - though hopeful this program would help- after talking with other families that have been through sensory learning I was very skeptical. So I understand how everyone is feeling. But one day Hayden and Colter played non stop for two hours- Colter kept saying "come on brother" "keep going" "don't stop" to Hayden- that was enough right there for me- to see the total joy in Hayden's eyes was worth every dime and I would do it all over again.

I am glad to share our notes once we are completed let me know if you are interested- they are pretty lengthy.

This school year was a nightmare for Colter- major regression- lack of improvement- not good at all. This has made up for it- in twelve days.

After getting off to a rocky start because the first day there was only 1 typical peer.. things have settled down fine.. It was a mix-up on the dates. Anyway today in his class there were atleast 4 typical in a class of 7. Just for FYI ..here is some info.. 's class is at Poplar Road. Heidi Biddle is the Teacher.. with a teaching assistant Miss a.. I do think they are trying to keep the class size 10 or under. Anyway it focuses on getting prepared for Kindergarten. They have circle time, Math Center, Language Center, outside time, and an hour of Free Play which focuses on Social and Play skills. I believe it is for 4, 5 and 6 year olds.

PS. I want to hear how Colter is doing with Sensory Learning but maybe you can share with the Group!!! completed Sensory Learning about 3 weeks ago and we have been seeing lots more language lately. he is pointing more and commenting more and seeking more physical contact with me--Mommy sit on couch with me--taking me by the hand and leading me to couch or to another room. We are pleased with his progress!!!

It is a one time program for twelve straight days in the clinic and then

18 days at home. After that you are done. It is intense and the child

should not receive other services during the 12 days at the clinic. It

cost $2550.00 and no they do not accept Medicaid- but do accept credit

cards :(. It is considered an educational program- we went to mediation

with the school over this (the school does not want to be the first to

do it in Georgia - it has been paid for by schools in other states- but

we live in GEORGIA - so they denied us the program but compensated in

other ways) and then we went to our regional board and family for

support. We are in the process of trying to start a non profit to help

families pay for therapy or supplies or whatever- so if $$$ is the issue

give us a few months and maybe we can help. Also, if you are with BCW

all they need to do is sign a contract- you will still have to pay your

cost share but hopefully it would be helpful.
