Guest guest
Oh, this is good... her Endo's name is Dr. Loon... LOL. She just faxed me his write up of her visit yesterday, and I feel compelled to share this portion with everyone, so that I may have some intelligent input. 1.Thyrotoxicosis. This is probably due to Grave's disease, and was controlled with a relatively small dose of Tapazol for four years. I discontinued this in December and her thyrotoxicosis has returned although she remains asymptomatic. Her free thyroxin index is 3.5 and her TSH level is 0.00 mclU/ml. Her thyroid exam is unchanged with a duffuse goiter, three times normal, and she has no pretibial myxedema or exophthalmos. Her hands are warm, non-sweaty and without tremor. Her heart rate is 66/minute, regular. I doubt that her thyrotoxicosis is going to resolve at this point, and i'm referring her to the radiation oncology service for radioactive iodin therapy. She will continue off Tapazol at this time. He is not the doc who put her on Tapazol by the way, it is an unnamed Endo here in the Metroplex who is near Presby that is notorious for treating patients outragiously... this endo lost all her records completely. Guest guest
She currently resides in South Carolina, and she is going to lose the 'Loon'!! The other endo here in Dallas was a real pill to some of our folks here on this list. He diagnosed Graves, but I don't believe he ever did any antibodies testing. So I emailed all the tests I thought she should have... BTW, the test results I posted were given by her Internist back in April, and he sent her to the Endo. I told her to go back to the Internist with the antibodies tests, and I will help her out with the treatments... forget the Loon!!! No hyper symptoms at all, she is finally down under 300lbs because of the South Beach Diet... she is weighing in at 216 lbs. right now. Has had migraines most of her adult life, they quit at menopause. Had carpal tunnel surgery. Has reflux. Loon trying to say he suspects diabetes, but I don't see that in her test results. Cathryn > I would lose the " Loon! " But I really don't know any docs that are especially good for Graves/hyper. > > With a heart rate of 66? RAI? I don't think so. > > Is the endo near Presby one of the group on LaSierra? I would not want to see any of them, including the one who is listed on Shomon's Top Doc list. Guest guest
Well isn't this interesting. Years ago, before I went to the one listed on Shomon's Top Doc list with the LaSierra group, I went to another one of that group on LaSierra, and he lost my whole file too. They said it went in between the fixed filing cabinet. Yeah right. He was the one who asked me in his office when I told him all my symptoms etc., " , are you a worrier? " My mom was with me and to this day she still laughs about what he said. UGH. I didn't go back to him after that. > I would lose the " Loon! Guest guest
Yes, he should. Has she got a nodule functioning on it's own, i.e., making it's own thyroid hormone, independently of the rest of the gland? She needs those antibodies tests, if for nothing but just for the record. If both her children have Hashi's, more than likely she does, as a percentage of chance. Mom's Got a Problem > Well what a surprise! My mom just called me, and said the Endo told > her yesterday after her visit that he wants her to have RAI on her > thyroid. She said he did a scan and told her half her gland was > functioning fine, the other half was functioning too much. I made > her fax me her tests this morning, and here they are: > > TSH: 0.005 REF (0.350-5.500) > FT4: 1.80 REF (0.61-1.76) > FT3: 4.3 REF (2.3-4.2) > > No tests for antibodies. Guest guest
Exactly. I told mom to request copies of all her files from former Endo here in Dallas in writing stating I would be there in person to pick them up at the end of the week. When they cannot produce them, we are going to report it. He was her Endo for about 8 year, so there were alot of records there, started with her in the hospital. By the way, Endo's name is Sachson, I do not have a problem telling it!!!
