Guest guest
I was really excited about this doctor (Dr. Hickl) because my Mother needs a good doctor and I am 99 percent sure that she desperately needs thyroid replacement. BUT he is not taking any new Medicare patients. A NEW challenge to add to the thyroid challenge. It is great to be able to read about doctors and treatments on this site. Maybe the next one will work out for us. I do plan to keep calling and see if he ever changes his status about new Medicare patients. Just wish I lived close to Dallas so I could see him myself. So glad you found someone that will help you on this journey. Jill > > Okay Cathryn, where IS he?! What area of Texas is he in? Guest guest
My first reply fell off into never-never land so will try again. I was excited to read about Dr. Hickl in Dallas because my Mother, who lives close to Dallas, really needs a good doctor and I am almost certain that she needs thyroid replacement. BUT he is not taking any new Medicare patients so now there is a new challenge to contend with. I plan to keep checking and see if his status changes. Thanks for giving us this information. Maybe the next doctor will work out. I would go see him myself if I lived close to Dallas. I am glad that you found a good doctor who will help you in your journey. It is encouraging to know that some folks are able to get good medical care. Jill > > Okay Cathryn, where IS he?! What area of Texas is he in? Guest guest
I'm really sorry to hear he isn't taking any new medicare patients. Maybe if you call and request to speak with Dr. Hickl, and explain the situation, he might make an exception? He seemed real caring. I called today to request copies of the labs I had drawn on friday. After a short wait, the nurse got on the phone and said the labs were back, but Dr. Hickl was on vacation for a couple of days and had taken my charts with him, so they did not have copies of those labs. I guess he wants to study the labs of his new patient. Being as I have been on Topamax for 2 years and never had any liver studies done, he had all that bloodwork done. Had my thyroid out in '98 with no calcium levels ever monitored, so he was checking that, plus my ferretin levels. Plus I have a bone density scheduled for monday. Besides the usual thyroid labs. Guess he wants to be thorough.
