Can we make it 4 things? Since you're talking to PT's - I would love if you mentioned that if they have a patient with Torticollis to please also screen them for Infantile Scoliosis. Although the verdict is out on the relationship between the two conditions (some docs believe one causes the other and some docs say there is no relation) the 2 can go hand in hand. I have heard from many moms on this group (myself included) where their child's Infantile Scoliosis rib hump was misdiagnoised as back "muscles" over-developing due to the Torticollis. Rib humps need to be recoginized as rib humps.~Noah 4 1/2 years old9 months of casting in SLC; Currently on 2 years of bracing at 6* in braceAnd Mariella 12 months old - resolved Infantile Scoliosis To: infantile_scoliosis From: nickgutheDate: Wed, 17 Feb 2010 09:03:14 -0800Subject: Re: 3 Things you would want doctors/PTs to know about PIS? Progressive Infantile Scoliosis is one of the few non cancerous conditions that affects babies that can potentially be fatal if not properly treated in time. While the majority of cases of IS self-resolve, in the ten percent that don't, time is vital. Watching and waiting can allow the curve to dangerously progress in only a matter of weeks or months, so act fast. Mehta Method EDF casts in the Early Treatment method are the only known potential cure in the world. It is non surgical, gentle and has the optimal chance of success if begun under age 2 and at 60 degrees COBB angle or less. This condition can cause vital organ damage and deformity, and should be on the "well baby" checklist. Hello,It truly has been quite some time since I have posted on the group site, but I try to keep up with reading your posts. I am Elly and my daughter is Emma. She is two and a half, and was treated with a series of 4 casts for PIS at Texas ish Rite. She has now been out of cast for 7 months and holding at no cuve with no bracing. On Monday, I have an God-given opportunity to speak to a group of Physical Therapy students and teachers. They are truly interested in this, and desire the opportunity to learn about what our kids are going though in an effort to help kids get early treatment. I am just a mom with one story, but I am going to do my best to spread the word. I would love to have your input as I go in there. If you guys wouldn't mind, would you answer this question.WHAT 3 THINGS WOULD YOU WANT A DOCTOR OR PT TO KNOW, AND UNDERSTAND ABOUT PROGRESSIVE INFANTILE SCOLIOSIS?I thank you in advance for your words, and thoughts. Be blessed today! My heart is with all of you and your kids as we are all on this journey together. Different roads, same journey! Elly Doran Hotmail: Powerful Free email with security by Microsoft.
