Guest guest
Do NOT let anyone get by with telling you it is all in your head. That is major BS. Tell them to shove cotton balls up their nose and tape their nostrils shut. Then they should try to walk across the room while breathing through a straw! That will give them a tiny taste of what asthma is like. Sheesh! Thank goodness your hubby understands! BTW, welcome to the group. I have suffered from allergies for about 10 years and started taking allergy shots about 5 years ago. I would occasionally have asthma symptoms. I currently see a an allergist/asthma doctor. That all changed in January, when I realized I couldn't walk in my own house without feeling like my chest hurt. I've come to learn it was like trying to breathe through a straw. Since then my attacks have only gotten worse and I now have been diagnosed with severe persistent asthma. I am currently on Advair 500/50, Albuterol inhaler, Singulair 10mg, Allegra-D, Sprivia, and Nasonex.I also go now periods where I need Prednisone. My other problem, thanks to the Advair, is I have developed Thrush 4x. I have taken Nystatin, which doesn't work. My insurance won't pay for more than 2 pills of Diflucan so now I am currently taking Mycelex lozengers. Of course, when I get the Thrush, I need more Prednisone because my asthma gets worse so it's a double edge sword! My doctor decided about 2 months ago that I was a great candidate for Xolair shots. My IgE level is 674. Unfortunately, my insurance company is giving me a hard time not because I wasn't approved for the drug but because they dont'want to pay for it. The only way they would finally agree to pay for it is if my doctor would purchase it from the pharmaceutical company first. Thankfully my doctor cares about my welfare and hopefully I will start to get the medication. I haven't felt like myself in months. I go through periods where I feel great and I can live a normal life but that doesn't happen often. I have been told lots of things from family and friends over the last couple of months, like I should get out more(too much baby) and that it's all in my head. I have also been told "you look fine"! I'm not happy that I can't go without taking Prednisone and I am worried about the long term side effects of it. I also know though I can't live without my medications. Albuterol has become my best friend. My DH has been great and supportive through all this and is frustrated too. Looking forward to sharing and talking with others! Guest guest
Hi Alana, Welcome to the group. There are many places in my town that do self-imposed bans, but I wish the state would do something here, because cigarette smoke is such a trigger for me. I live in Bristol, Tennessee. Guest guest
Welcome aboard, Alana. Many of the counties here in Marland have bans against smoking in public places, such as restaurants, government offices, workplaces, etc. Bars are an exception, but if they're in restaurants they have to be closed off, with separate ventalation systems. There's always a major campaign to block pending bans, businesses like restaurants saying that they'll lose too many of their customers. But my county's had bans for years and you can't get in most restaurants in the evening without a wait. It can be a couple hours on the weekends. H. Guest guest
I live in Utah and we have the Utah indoor clean air act here. Only private clubs can allow smoking (which most bars and clubs here are) All other public places don't allow smoking indoors and when outdoors you must be 25 feet from the entrance to smoke. They did a study when it was passed and it did not impact businesses at all. In fact it has benefited them. I think its great. There was an act to make it so you can't smoke indoors in private clubs this last legislative session but unfortunately it didn't pass. I enjoy the concerts that are often help in the smaller private club setting, but to attend in a smoky club, I have to pre-treat to go then bring my inhaler just in case. My asthma is mild I'm sure others who have more than a mild case would just have to stay away. It's unfortunate.
Guest guest
My daughter smokes and she has to go outside, and she is not allowed to smoke in the car either. I smoked for 26 years, 15 of it with the asthma steadily getting worse. I gave them up 6 years ago. For anyone who smokes I understand the addiction, but please be courteous as there are some of us who cannot tolerate the smoke. I don't even like the smell of it on my daughter's clothes but she is courteous enough to be careful around me. I'll go to the door and she will move. If I have to go outside, she will go downstairs (we live in a second floor apartment with outside stairs) to the main porch around front. I wish the kids at the college I attend were all so courteous but maybe a few more letters to the school paper will eventually get the message across. If we all take time to write letters and whatever, maybe we can change things. Just a thought. Take care, sea_girl111 wrote: Hi . Thank you for welcoming me to the group!
