Which Sunil have you heard a lot about me from? Did you mean to say Skand, and

wrote Sunil instead? :-)

About me - I am a microbiologist, working at the Bhopal Memorial Hospital &

Research Centre. Skand and I work at the same hospital. We have an 11 year old

daughter, Divya, who believes that Sewagram is another name for paradise!!

Apart from peering at bugs and thinking up Machiavellian shemes to slaughter

them, I garden, play the sitar, paint a bit, do a bit of ikebana/embroidery,

organise cultural programmes off and on, write the occasional article, read a

LOT......... I guess that about sums me up!

Do keep in touch -

Hi , welcome to the group. Tell your family this the next time they give you grief, Do you want to be the one to sit with me in the ER the next time I have an attack or would you rather raise my child after I die. That will shut them up. Then do what the drs tell you to do and take care of yourself. Do be careful on the prednisone. I don't mean to scare you but I now have diabetes from taking it so much. Right now I'm trying to stay off of it, and I'm taking an antibiotic hoping to get rid of an infection. My asthma flared up because of this and allergies. We are all here to help and will try to answer your questions the best we can. Take care. wlofaro wrote:

Hi, I have been lurking around for a while reading messages and decided thatit was time to join. It's great to read the messages to see that there are other people like me out there. That what I am experiencing is something others have too.My name is , I am 38(in a month) SAHM to a 17 month old DS. I live in NY. I have suffered from allergies for about 10 years and started taking allergy shots about 5 years ago. I would occasionally have asthma symptoms. I currently see a an allergist/asthma doctor. That all changed in January, when I realized I couldn't walk in my own house without feeling like my chest hurt. I've come to learn it was like trying to breathe through a straw. Since then my attacks have only gotten worse and I now have been diagnosed with severe persistent asthma. I am currently on Advair

500/50, Albuterol inhaler, Singulair 10mg, Allegra-D, Sprivia, and Nasonex.I also go now periods where I need Prednisone. My other problem, thanks to the Advair, is I have developed Thrush 4x. I have taken Nystatin, which doesn't work. My insurance won't pay for more than 2 pills of Diflucan so now I am currently taking Mycelex lozengers. Of course, when I get the Thrush, I need more Prednisone because my asthma gets worse so it's a double edge sword! My doctor decided about 2 months ago that I was a great candidate for Xolair shots. My IgE level is 674. Unfortunately, my insurance company is giving me a hard time not because I wasn't approved for the drug but because they dont'want to pay for it. The only way they would finally agree to pay for it is if my doctor would purchase it from the pharmaceutical company first. Thankfully my doctor cares about my welfare and hopefully I will start to get the medication.

I haven't felt like myself in months. I go through periods where I feel great and I can live a normal life but that doesn't happen often. I have been told lots of things from family and friends over the last couple of months, like I should get out more(too much baby) and that it's all in my head. I have also been told "you look fine"! I'm not happy that I can't go without taking Prednisone and I am worried about the long term side effects of it. I also know though I can't live without my medications. Albuterol has become my best friend. My DH has been great and supportive through all this and is frustrated too. Looking forward to sharing and talking with others!God bless you!__________________________________________________

, You still have diabetes inspite of being off of the prednisone? I have been on 40-60mgs. for 2 years without being able to taper. Last year I was diagnosed with diabetes. I was hoping that it would go away if I was ever able to get off of the prednisone. I was finally able to convince my pulmonologist to let me taper a little, but now the asthma is so bad. I can't sleep at night because the wheezing is so loud it wakes me up. My peak flow is under 200. It would be worth it if there was a chance of the diabetes going away though. Right now that is so out of control. My levels are hitting as high as 500. My fasting is about 300. And that is when I am on 50 units of Lantus and about 40 of Novolog at every meal. Prednisone is definietly the "devil" drug.

Yep, devil drug is a good name for it. Yes, I am still diabetic. Your sugars are so high because you are still on it. You are on quite a bit. Do you take that every day? If so, that is why your sugars are so high. Have you been checked for COPD? Your peak flow is not good at all. I'd be looking into the COPD if I were you. I was tested and came back ok. I have allergy related persistent asthma. My levels don't go that high now, but if I didn't take Amaryl and watch what I eat, it would be higher. My highest in the past month was like 220 after a big pasta meal. I talked with my dr and we tweaked my dosage just a little and I don't eat so much pasta now. As long as I stay off the devil I seem to be ok. I am having a mild flareup now and had to go on an antibiotic. I hope that keeps me off the devil this time. Last time I did this, in February, I had to take the devil two days. I couldn't stand any

more. Take care, and hope you feel better soon.

, You still have diabetes inspite of being off of the prednisone?

Do be careful on the prednisone. I don't mean to scare you but I now have diabetes from taking it so much. Right now I'm trying to stay off of it, and I'm taking an antibiotic hoping to get rid of an infection.
