Guest guest
I believe I have both Graves & Hashimoto's though I have NEVER in 30 years with this disease been tested for antibodies, I am just going on symptoms. It may just be Hashi's as that can have hyper swings while it burns your thyroid out. I DO firmly believe my thyroid is dead and non-functional at this point, simply fom the amount of replacement I have to take to feel normal. There are places online where you canorder your own testing, www.healthcheck.com is one, and there are pharmacies where you can order Armour without a prescription. I adjusted my meds basically usiny an average body temperature chart, and symptoms. It has been a LONG slow process, but I am finally feeling great for the most part. Still tweaking the dosages a little, but I haven;t felt this good in years so I must be close to optimized! You will get lots of help & support on this list, the foks here are great! ---Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).Version: 6.0.745 / Virus Database: 497 - Release Date: 8/27/2004

Guest guest
, can you give a detail on how you adjust your meds with body temp? The endo I saw yesterday bah-humbugged the body temp deal. I am on SR-T3 37.5 mcg...can get my temp to 98.6 (after a month) but only in the afternoon/evening. Just checked my temp this a.m. 96.6...any suggestions? "I haven't felt this good in years"...wow, can't wait to have those words coming out of my mouth! -e-

Guest guest
When I started "doing this myself", My average daily temp, taken basal firt thing before arising averaged out with mid day then evening, was around 95.4 to 96 F. It hardly fluctuated at all from basal to the rest of the day! When I got ill, it often dropped! At 99 degrees I was hallucinating from fever. At this itme, my blood pressure was horibly high, stroke ranges! My legs were swelling so bad I could barely walk and went up from 5.5 shoes to 8 wides! I slept every minute I wasn;t at work, and was horribly tired even at work. The final straw was when I fell asleep with clippers in my hands in the middle of STANDING GROOMING A DOG! My head hit the table & woke me up, and my boss sent me home to rest. Luckily she knew how sick I had become. I then went to the doc AGAIN, and he siad it must not be thyroid as my levels were fine. I started reading on the web at the about.com site about hypothyroidism and have not looked back. I found the pharmacies to order Armour, and then talked my GP into prescribing it for me with info I found on the web.. I took him a BOOK I had printed out form the web! He still dosed by the TSH though so I would never be well on his prescriptions so I increased it on my own. For three years I slowly upped my Armour dosage from the 1 grain I started on to 4.5 grains. Then went to a new doc and told him I was on 4.5 grains... still scared to do it all on my own. Then though I felt better, I was still not well. My last tests showed my Free T4 in the upper range my Free T3 was LOW below range, way below, and my TSH was .01. He said it was fine. I chose to not believe him. I ordered Cytomel and have increased that slowly for the last 2 years along wiht alternating Armour increases so now I am at 5 grains Armour and 50MCG Cytomel a day. I also take DHEA 50 MG which has carried my hormones as I no longer take Premarin which thry had me on for TOO many years due to early hysterectomy at 27.My body temp now averages about 98.3 which when i include my basal temps, that os almost normal! At times I tried to adjust the meds too quickly and it showed in my basal temp right away as too high. I would then back to a slightly lower dosage and stay there for a couple months before another increase. I have had heart palps only once, and that was from increasing the Cytomel too quick. Aside from that one time and being too warm I have NO hyper symptoms at all, and I think the warm is menopause as much as anything. I do use some slight amount of Progesterone cream now when the hot flashes/night sweats become obvious. Usually about a week a month I dab a little on my thighs or belly. My blood pressure is low normal, wiht NO meds now, and my legs do not swell at all. I wake up feeling happy & alert, and stay that way most the day, though my drive is still not what it used ot be. I have NO sex drive, but I kinda think that is my age and my last BF... LOL Being de-sexed for 22 years might have something to do with it too! LOL Yes, my hyst was complete. I watched my very depressed Mother commit suicide at 35 years old due to lack of treatment for this disease, and I really think that is what motivated me to not allow doctors to do this same thing to me. It also gives me the reason to help others wiht this disease. ---Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).Version: 6.0.745 / Virus Database: 497 - Release Date: 8/27/2004

Guest guest
, thank you for your story...my heart ached as I read it...part of my story too. "I watched my very depressed Mother commit suicide at 35 years old due to lack of treatment for this disease" throughout my 48 years I have thought that suicide was a much better option because of the despair I felt, I was one of the lucky ones and was able to hang on until I got to this website....I feel so much for your mother and thousands of women that have taken their lives because of this thyroid imbalance. Thanks for sharing. -e-

Guest guest
Dr. Dons wanted to take me off the 's protocol (off SRT3) but finally said that he'd give it a try ( I think some drug reps were waiting for him...didn't want me in the office so I could shout that I wasn't taking their drugs!), gave me a 'script for 100 or 6 weeks, no refills. He also gave me a 'script for 300 mg of Wellbutrin XT(?), new stuff...didn't fill...got some previous formula Wellbutrin left and am weaning myself off the stuff...he bah-humbugged that too. I made an appointment with Dr. Boyle (T3 friendly MD) on the 22nd. I hope I can get my temp to stay @ 98.6...I just checked...it is 98 this afternoon. I feel so much better, brain fog clearing...now if only I can unpack more boxes I'd probably feel like exercising! -e-

Guest guest
And Oprah doesn't think thyroid disease is serious enough to discuss on her show ... and many doctors think thyroid disease is easy to treat. How utterly sad. I lost an Aunt and a cousin to suicide. Looking back on it now, I wonder if it was somehow related to thyroid disease, as it is so prevalent in my family. -----Original Message-----From: Eva Caballero Sent: Thursday, September 02, 2004 2:10 PMTo: Texas_Thyroid_Groups Subject: Re: Re: Synthroid , thank you for your story...my heart ached as I read it...part of my story too. Guest guest
Oh, Eva. Lots of people don't respond well to Wellbutrin. Not only can it contradict your thyroid medication, it also is designed to affect receptors that, in hypos, can actually give you anxiety. For instance, my doctor will not prescribe it. There are a handful of hypos I've met who take it, but most have tried it and done very poorly. It gave me a panic attack that was so bad, I actually had to call EMS. Best-- Courtenay. Guest guest
What it comes down to is that people don't want to be bothered with what does not concern them. It is much easier to ignore it than confront it. It's like mental illness-- people don't want to deal with the subject because they fear they have it. As far as Oprah goes, a thyroid story is right up her alley. We just need to get past the gauntlet and appeal to her belief in helping others. Best-- Courtenay. I feel so much better, brain fog clearing...now if only I can unpack more boxes I'd probably feel like exercising! -e-
Guest guest
Interesting! I took it for a month and didn’t have any adverse effects at all. Guest guest
Holy Moly, Batman! That's really sick. Where did you read that???? Courtenay. The Nazis used fluoride to subdue the prisoners in concentration camps. What did fluoride do? It made them hypothyroid. T wrote: I honestly think if the real truth ever got out, like how many TRULY have thyroid disease it would take over the news media. No one wants to hear there is an epidemic in this country let alone all over the world. I have actually wondered if there isn't a conspiracy to cover it all up as we (the cattle) are so much easier led when hypo. Kinda makes ya wonder huh?
