Weeeellll, that depends. Eva is seeing someone new that she

seems to like, but she has just started seeing him.

I am seeing Dr. Menendez, who overdosed me on Levoxyl at the

outset because he was ambitious about making me well enough to go back

to work. Instead, I ended up more sick. But, since then,

he has put me on Armour and is monitoring me pretty carefully.

He does Cytomel and Armour, which almost no one we know of does

locally, but he's not crazy about Armour at all. I like him, and

I like his attentiveness. Jan, our moderator, would probably not

recommend him, however, for reasons that make complete sense.

Best wishes--

Courtenay.

Is there anyone that has success with

any type of doc in San

?

I have not heard of Lee, but I do know someone who was

hyperthyroid who went to Becker. He is known locally for having

the WORST bedside manner you can imagine, but he is apparently very

successful in treating his patients. Oh, and incidentally, he

has his own wine label-- Becker Vineyards. He makes great wines,

yet I don't know anyone who would recommend him as a doctor.

Lee sounds interesting. Have you told Jan about her

yet?

Hi I go to Lee. She's new to

the area and in with Dr. Becker9whom I've heard is good with thyroid

cancer and stuff). I've only seen her 2xs as I'm just starting

this process. She did put me on synthroid because of symptoms

and a nodule, but my labs were good. so she prescribed by

symptoms, not labs. I just went in for my follow up and she lowered it

a bit, I don't have the results as I saw her, then did labs, then got

a phone call. I'll know next month the numbers. I do have

a node and she is monitoring it and will do another ultra sound next

month. She is very friendly and quiet spoken, takes a long time

with you. I don't know about armor as I haven't gotten there

yet. Good luck-oh she's an endocrinologist.

In general, I do not recommend that anyone other than cancer patients should see endocrinologists. They tend to leave ordinary hypos and hashi patients undermedicated.Courtenay wrote:

Oh my goodness, I went to Dr. Becker from 1993-2003, through both my pregnancies and I *loved* him! After I got RAI at M.D. (where I was a patient for lymphoma...the Graves happened while I was still going there every few months for follow-up testing after I was cured of Hodgkin's, so they treated my Graves, and I was clueless about other options, but I was glad when I was no longer hyper). Anyway, the M.D. people gave me Dr. Becker's name. I lived in Beeville at the time, so I began making the 3-hour round trip to see him, and was his patient for ten full years. He only medicated me with Synthroid, but for the most part, I was always feeling fine, had a good weight, etc. For some reason my problems started during our move to the Houston area last year...a lot of stress, and with turning 40, I thought it was my age. So now I am seeing Dr. Arem and the addition of Cytomel isn't doing a whole lot for me that I can tell. I still get wickedly tired every afternoon, and lately I think I'm sort of on an emotional rollercoaster...might be perimenopause, who knows. Anyway, I really liked Dr. Becker, but everyone likes different types. I found him much easier to talk to than Dr. Arem...who is easier to talk to than Dr. Sharma (my first try in the Houston area). She was awful!

Really? I would think with how complicated the

endoctorine system is, that an Endo would be your best choice.

Not that I have any such luck!

Wow. Just goes to show how different people gel with

different doctors. The person who mentioned that to me said he

was a good doctor, but she used the " e " word when describing

him, as in " evil " .

Tell me about it! I've only seen three doctors in the last

seven months since diagnosis, and even I can attest to that.
