Please read my initial post after seeing him. It's post #5457 dated May 26th. I remain extremely impressed with him and his treatment protocol, and I'm looking forward to my visit next month. I have noticed some subtle improvement which says a lot because I've been chronically undertreated for many years, plus I have a lot of other issues -- high antibodies, low ferritin & B12, adrenal issues, chronic pain, stress, and I suspect estrogen/progesterone, etc. I'm also one who needs to increase their Armour dose gradually so I understand it's going to take some time to reverse the damage and get all my cells and hormones working nicely together again. Will your insurance cover the visit? I would highly recommend him. You're in the Houston area, is that right? Southwest has reasonable fares. And it's a nice drive if you have the time. I dread going to see other doctors. I had the same problem trying to decide about Lubbock but I'm glad I took the plunge. I had to do SOMETHING though. Dr. is currently treating me with Armour thyroid (currently at 1 1/2 grains). I am also taking compounded DHEA 5mg a day and hydrocortisone 7.5 mg a day, and a prescription B6, B12, Folic Acid vitamin. He also prescribes bio-identical estrogen and progesterone (I hope I'm saying that right). He and his wife are both hypothyroid and he has a biochemical background which really gives him incredible knowledge about the whole endocrine system. My first visit was done in two days. The first day was the consultation, the next morning I came back for blood tests. Then you return in a few weeks for test results and treatment plan. After that it's either 3 or 4 times a year. Maybe even less after that once everything is optimized. I have had a couple of questions which the office staff has been real helpful answering when I've called them. If you stay at the Lubbock Inn it's a block away from the office, and they'll give you the medical rate. And provide a shuttle to/from the airport. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield which the office files for me. The idea of a road trip sounds fun but which one of us wouldn't be too tired to drive? (haha)~ ,Thank you for answering my e-mail. I really appreciate the information, it helps makes making a decision easier and with what my endo told me yesterday, I need to do something soon. As far as the drive over there, if we had 50 people we could all take turns driving 5 mins, then pulling over and sleep or rest a couple of hours and do it all over again. LOL. But it is that same fatigue that makes me hesitate to go. Even flying over there makes me exhausted thinking of it. But I am glad you told me about that hotel. At least that way you don't have to rent a car and try to figure out where you are going. It really does sound like he is trying to treat all systems at once, which I think is good. I believe these doctors that take it piece by piece are going at it all wrong. Again thank you for the information. And if anyone else has something to share about this doctor please do. The first thing she asked was " what have you done about your high liver enzymes? " My husband couldn't believe that she said that. The last visit she told us that they were nothing to worry about!! She told me that all of the tests that she ran that were out of range meant nothing!!!! Then she told me that my low Free T4 was from taking Armour that I need to switch to you know what!!! But thanks to y'all I know that isn't true. You have to know that these were test results from 3 months ago that we were discussing!!! She is re-running the TSH, FT4 and FT3 and if the FT4 is low, I am going to try to add a small amount of T4 to the mix to see how that does. She totally ignored my other questions by telling me to go find a GP and have him run tests to figure out what else is wrong with me and then to come back to her in 6 months. Right like I will go back to her. I gave her a chance and she blew it. Why would I even bother going back to her when she is telling me to have some other doctor to figure out what is wrong? The first thing she asked was " what have you done about your high liver enzymes? " My husband couldn't believe that she said that. The last visit she told us that they were nothing to worry about!! She told me that all of the tests that she ran that were out of range meant nothing!!!! Then she told me that my low Free T4 was from taking Armour that I need to switch to you know what!!! But thanks to y'all I know that isn't true. You have to know that these were test results from 3 months ago that we were discussing!!! She is re-ruining the TSH, FT4 and FT3 and if the FT4 is low, I am going to try to add a small amount of T4 to the mix to see how that does. She totally ignored my other questions by telling me to go find a GP and have him run tests to figure out what else is wrong with me and then to come back to her in 6 months. Right like I will go back to her. I gave her a chance and she blew it. Why would I even bother going back to her when she is telling me to have some other doctor to figure out what is wrong? After breast cancer in 2001, I did not want to continue with the toxic-waste-and-horse-piss hormones. But I also did not want to get osteoporosis on a suppressive dose of thyroid hormones. (I was already on Armour plus synthetic T4.) There are local docs in Dallas who prescribe the bio-equivalent hormones, but I wanted someone who really knows what they are doing. With both the Armour and the sex and adrenal hormones, prescribes cautiously, starting low and increasing slowly, guided by tests, clinical observation and patient reports. He really listens, and he explains everything very clearly. I have never heard of him yelling at anyone or blaming them for not feeling good. He has never spent less than an hour with me. If he were in the Dallas area, he would be my primary care doctor. The bad news is that if you are self-pay, he charges $350 for the consultation and $1500 for the group of tests he runs for everyone. It may be more if he decides you have other issues that need to be addressed. You have a blood draw in his office first thing in the morning, then you come back when the lab results are in. After that, he wants to see you back every three months, but after the first visit, you can get your blood draw at a local lab about a month before your appointment.
