Guest guest
I'm sure you'll get lots of responses that are more informed than mine, but definitely do some reading on the thyroid.about.com website, and you might get a copy of " Living Well With Hypothyroidism " also, which addresses normal TSH and antibody issues pretty thoroughly. Some people feel better after two weeks, but that's rare. My neighbor had Hashimoto's and had no symptoms whatsoever, before or after taking Levoxyl (another brand name). I've been chronic for six months and my levels weren't really that off to start with... and I've been going through doctors like Kleenex while trying to get my dose right... and make good decisions regarding the medication that is best for me. Also, you want to make sure you're taking the dosage correctly, as in: 1) on an empty stomach an hour before you eat in the morning. 2) make sure you take any supplements at least four hours apart from your medication. 3) avoid calcium-containing substances in the same time-frame. (No milk, no orange juice fortified with calcium). There's more to consider -- all of this is addressed at thyroid.about.com. Glad you were diagnosed. That's the first step! i wanted to update you guys on the outcome of my doctor's appointment. i had my appointment with dr. scumpia at 11:30 this morning. first thing they did was the sonogram. that was boring, but uneventful. then i met with dr. scumpia. she told me that i do have hashimoto's and that i have three nodules on my thyroid. she started me on synthroid. for the first week, she wants me to take half a pill. the pill is .05mg (50mcg, right?). after a week, if i'm not having racing heart etc. she wants me to up it to a full pill daily. she wants to see my goiter shrink and my nodules as well. if they dont, she wants to do a biopsy on the nodules. she also told me i should start feeling much better in a week or two. i go back to see her in 2 months. she was pretty quick and i should have asked more questions (like what were my antibody levels, etc. but i wasn't as outgoing as i should have been.). BUT, i am thankful that whether or not to treat wasn't an issue! and that how i feel seems to be important too, even though my levels appear normal. that's another thing i should have asked, " why do i feel bad and have antibodies but " normal " levels? " all in all, i am really pleased. i know what's wrong now and why i've felt like poo. i am hopeful that the medication will really be able to help me feel better. i am a little sad at the thought that i'll be dealing with this for the rest of my life, but there's MUCH worse life long illness' to have! of course, if i have kids, i hope i don't pass it to them too! so, for all of you on synthroid, anything i should know? is one to two weeks too soon to start to feel better? how long until you really felt close to symptom free? how long did it generally take you to find the right dosage for you?
