Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I wanted to send an update on me, my house & my workouts. First, thank you to everyone for your kindness about our flood and about me not being around lately. The water disaster recovery company has done great drying up the water with dehumidifiers. They'll be finished tomorrow afternoon. We are going to have to completely redo our bathroom that we had almost finished redoing... at least this time I guess the insurance company will be helping us pay for it. That really, really upset me at first but I'm just thankful the damage wasn't worse. There's one large section of our basement ceiling that needs to be replaced and another smaller (but still big) section that will probably also have to be fixed but at least it is dry now, so no mold. The insurance adjuster is coming out Friday afternoon so I'll know better then what we're doing. I've been working a lot, hanging out with the kids as much as possible too and we had a slew of parties, including my step-sister's wedding the last few weekends and I had to do a lt of preparing for the wedding (getting a dress, getting it altered, making sure the kids had clothes for it, buying a gift, etc.). Obviously, we don't get out much! ;-) We're also planning a vacation for August and I'd been doing tons of research trying to get a decent hotel for a really good price, etc. We haven't vacationed in a few years so this is a huge thing for us. I've got a motel booked, now I'm praying it is as decent as it sounds. Gotta figure out how much the tourist activities we want to do will cost and which options/deals we'd be best off doing next. Miriam's sweet exercise chart for me had been rather bare but this week, despite, or maybe because of, the craziness, I did kick it into gear a bit better and managed to earn 4 stickers (for 4 workouts)! I had no plan, just did what appealed to me at the moment. Here's what I did: Wednesday: Amy Dixon Women's Health Total Workout in Ten! I did all 4 of the workouts. I've only done this once before and will have to do it again soon. Even though the workouts are all separate, she moves fast between them, no time for resting and that was great. Friday: The FIRM Jiggle Free Arms. I didn't have much energy but I wanted to work hard yet not kill myself and even though I'd only done this once or twice before, I didn't remember it being too tough and it was only 30 minutes. It was a little more challenging than I'd remembered but definitely doable. I got totally messed up on some of the step aerobics even though they were very simple routines and definitely attributed that to fatigue but I still enjoyed it and felt good to have gotten something in. This was before the flood but after an early morning yearly mammogram (all good, thankfully). Saturday: Hadn't planned to do anything since I usually don't on weekends but spontaneously decided to do some yoga after reading some of your yoga reports (I've been lurking a little, haven't felt much like posting lately). I tried doing some kind of yoga for anxiety routine from Yoga for Stress Relief but the 50 minute routine started with I have no idea how many minutes of just different breathing (for stress relief) exercises. I was antsy to move and the breathing exercises were making me much more anxious than when I'd started!! She (Barbara Benagh?) even says, often, these are more likely to make you more anxious than feel good at first! She says if you keep with it you'll see results but I did NOT have the patience at all and took it out after about 10 minutes. I put in Yoga for Every Body and did a 30 minute practice, can't remember which one, something about grounding I think, it was new to me. I LOVED it! It wasn't quite as active as I thought I wanted but it had a hand sequence, a foot sequence, that weird eye sequence and also some more active stuff with down dog combined with some poses I hadn't done before but enjoyed. The only problem was trying to enjoy the relaxation pose at the end with HUGE dehumidifiers right outside my little workout room (which thankfully has a door), my kids playing a VERY loud game on the Wii in that same area and the two of them just being plan loud (I guess they had to compete with the dehumidifiers). I gave up after a minute or two. I absolutely was not able to lay still, relax and focus at that point but I still enjoyed the rest of the yoga session. Sunday (today): More spontaneous exercise. DH and DD were going to go for a bike ride after dinner (her biking, him walking because us adults don't have bikes) and I told them to grab the big kid couch potato who does like to ride bikes. Since all 3 of them were going and it was a nice but warm evening I figured I had to go with them. The couch potato gave up after about 20 minutes or so but the little one wanted to keep going so DH and I went with her and ended up walking 50 minutes! It mighg have been too much for him, we'll see tomorrow, but we decided we need to do more walking so he can build up some endurance for the vacation next month (lots of walking). Miriam is going to make him an exercise chart too! :-) I'm not sure what is up for tomorrow. I work all morning and the water recovery guys will be here in the afternoon so it might be a walk in the evening, if we don't have the thunderstorms they're predicting or the close to 100 degree temps. Will try to post it if I do it. Thanks for reading this anyone who did, I know it is long!!

Guest guest
Hi Donna, Trying to get a little caught up on emails. Thank you! Miriam and her little sticker sheet is really motivating me! Yeah, that eye thing is weird! I did it once before but with the hands and feet it almost seemed to be good. Still weird though. DH's colonoscopy went well. It also confirmed he has Crohn's Disease which is not good but at least we know what we're dealing with. At this time his doc is going to continue treating him as he was with the ulcerative colitis diagnosis he'd been working from but he's got some followups coming soon and we'll find out more. DH has also suffered some bone loss due to steroids he's had to take, plus he's white and thin and both apparently make him more vulnerable to it so I told him he has to do weight bearing exercises to help build it back up. He is reluctant to do much but he's at least trying. His doc told him to exercise too so that helps. I'm hoping maybe he can get a physical therapy prescription to get him into it more but am not holding my breath on that one. Guest guest
Hi Carolyn! Thanks, I am so glad for the insurance too! Miriam's exercise chart is very motivating! It is on the fridge so I see it every time I want to eat something too! She says if I get 7 days in a row I can have a prize. I have no idea what it will be but we'll see. I'd have her make a chart and send you one but part of the fun is having her pick out stickers and putting them on the chart for me and then encouraging/congratulating me. Your own chart will be about as good since you wouldn't have her in person to help you (though tonight I wouldn't have minded shipping her there for a bit, she slept at a friend's house last night and then went to the beach with them today and was super tired and whiny, I think she's asleep now though). Oops, commercial, gotta get off my butt again! Re: Update hi nancy! a flood! what a bummer im so sorry to hear that you are going through this, and that your bathroom got wrecked. thank goodness for insurance though! um, i think that i need miriam to make an exercise chart for me too! LOLthat must be some really good motivation for you... if one of my kids showed such an interest in me id really want to workout to please him. i have two boys though and now that they are 10 and 12 they pretty much ignore me in favour of their dad and video games. oh well, i guess i will just use the same old chart i always use...LOL.:*carolyn. Guest guest
you guys are all my inspiration. my joints are so sore from lack of yoga.. may do a bit tonight...To: exercisevideos Sent: Tuesday, August 9, 2011 12:28 PMSubject: Re: update Hugs on the stressful schedule, Judy.. but way to go on the diet! You and I are the same weight, my diet has been good this week but was total crap last week. The Slim Series might be good workouts for you because you do lots of reps with lighter weights (thinking of the owie wrist here) and my favorite one of all, the leg workout, is no weights at all - but oooo does it hurt! Love it! Hugs I have been so out of it exercise wise... work and teaching this night class is really taking up all my time mon- wed then thurs I am pooped (class runs till 9:30... by time I am home it is nearly 11pm.. ok I get up at 5am..so really killing my sleep schedule), friday I try to catch up on 40 hours of real work in one day...then dog stuff weekends..yikes.. BUT it is over after next week.. i think I wll join Donna in slim in 6 rotation... but after next week (last week of teaching night class). So start last week in August I am sorry indy i didn't run.. but i just couldnt get it in with my current work schedule and with no yoga or anything lately... I am really tight... I still don't have ability to do down dog or push ups with wrist.. and I may never get full range of motion back but I got a wedge and am determined to get back in shape. on the bright side.. I have been eating well and almost under 180... right now bouncing between 178 and 182... I hope adding back exercise in 2 weeks will keep me down and I can keep the good eating going.. thanks WW online judy
