Guest guest
Hi Melinda, Sorry that all of this is happening to you and the girls. I'm not sure what the answer is. When Noah was little he slept through the night and then, like Marlycia, would start waking up. It was torchure!! We ended up buying a Sound Machine from Bed, Bath and Beyond for about $30.00, and it worked wonders. He's now 4 and still listens to it at night. It was a lifesaver. Anyways, my thoughts, hope it helps. Have a great day. Noah 4yrs 3mo 9 casts in 3rd brace 80 degrees to 17 in brace Subject: Suggestions??To: infantile_scoliosis Date: Thursday, October 15, 2009, 9:30 AM Hi all, So I'm in need of some advice. Marlycia was sleeping thru the night since she was 10 wks old. When she turned 7 mnths, she started waking up for bottles again. So I gave in for a while then I let her 'cry it out'. She cried for three nights and started sleeping thru again. I feel like she is capable of going until 6am w/out a bottle b/c shes done it for so long. Now, when she got her brace on, she started waking up again and of course to comfort her, I gave her a bottle. Its getting worse every night. Now shes waking every 2-3 hrs!!! I'm exhausted and shes waking up Natalya. All our bedrooms are so close together, everyone can hear everything. So my issue now is, do I keep giving in to her? Shes 9 mnths old and I dont want her to think this is ok b/c I'll be taking the bottle away completely by the time shes 12/13 mnths. I know shes not in pain b/c she goes back to sleep after the bottle (which I am holding b/c she cant yet). So, I need to let her cry it out, right? What kind of noise can I have in Natalyas room so she doesnt hear it? I had the AC in the summer bit now what?MelindaMommy of Marlycia 9 mnths, Natalya 23 mnthsScranton, PA

Guest guest
We also use a sound machine in our son's room. It is wonderful. YOu could probably even put one in each of the kids rooms for added help. I have a question about letting her cry it out. Does she need to eat more, smaller meals because of the brace or is she eating the same amount as before? If she is eating the same amount as before them I think letting her cry it out is fine, but if she isn't then you may need to get up once in the middle of the night to feed her. I know you said that she doesn't hold her own bottle yet but when she starts, I put Cole to bed with a sippy cup of water so something like that could be helpful in holding her over. The cup has handles and he holds onto it even when he sleeps sometimes, and makes it super easy for him to handle even at a young age. Good Luck, Jenn Mommy to Cole, 21 months, 3rd cast from Rochester, 18 degrees down from 47, chiari malformation > > Hi all, > > So I'm in need of some advice. Guest guest
Melinda,Sorry about the sleepless nights. Not getting sound sleep can really make things bad. As far as noise for Natalya's room they make white noise machines. I do not have one, but have friends(adults)that can only sleep with one. We do not have ceiling fans now in the boys room, but as babies they did have one. So right now they both sleep with a small oscillating fan all through the night. Now as far as her waking up and wanting to be fed. I may not get lots of love for this, but I would nip it in the bud. Let her cry about it. She is old enough to know you will wake up and give her a bottle. This is coming from a mom who made a midnight feeder because he would not eat during the day. Long story short he had laryngomalacia(floppy esophagus)so it was hard for him to swallow/eat. It may sound mean, but she is not hungry....right? Just wanting to be soothed and the bottle is doing it. You have made her schedule so she is just going along with it. I did the same with .Its hard being a mom.Congrats on the brace results!! Guest guest
Melinda, My son sleeps to the sound of a vaporizor every night and it works great. Or a fan facing away from her would work good too. Any sort of "white noise" works great. As far as the bottle feeding goes, maybe try to feed her a little more in the evenings? Do you give her a bottle right before bed? We used to feed Isaiah a bottle of formula mixed with rice cereal in the bottle before bed and that held him over til morning. If she still wakes up try to just rock her w/o the bottle and see how that works. Hope it gets better! Guest guest
DO you put cereal in her bottles? We did this for since he was about two weeks old, just the one right before bed. Just put a few scoops of cereal in the bottle along with the formula, and for us this worked like a charm. Speaking of bottles, he completely weaned himself off of them. We tried to give him one last week and he threw and has not had one since, now if only the same would happen with the binky.Beth Rettinger Mother Of In First Cast From SLCSubject: Suggestions??To: infantile_scoliosis Date: Thursday, October 15, 2009, 11:30 AM Hi all, So I'm in need of some advice. I had the AC in the summer bit now what? Guest guest
Melinda, http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1 & SKU=13630208 This is not the one that Noah has, but you can get the idea. I'm sure you can find them at other places too, WalMart, Target etc. I definitally agree with the other mom, that maybe get one for both girls rooms. Good Luck, I think you'll be very happy with it. Guest guest
Jenn, She is still eating the same as before, if not more. She no longer has the reflux and shes a really good eater. Sometimes, I get nervous and think, does she have a worm or something? This kid is never full!! I tried giving her the Avent sippy cups with handles but she cant seem to hold those either. Now, she does hold her bottle on her own, but not for long at all. Melinda Re: Suggestions?? Guest guest
I think you have to let her cry it out. It is so hard as a parent to tough it out, but you will not get any rest otherwise. You could buy a white noise machine. I used one with Ian when he was a baby because he was a terrible sleeper and it seemed to help. It might help your other daughter to sleep through the crying. Ours had several different settings like just plain white noise, waves, rain, etc. Noelle (12-2-01) Ian (8-15-04) To: infantile_scoliosis Sent: Thu, October 15, 2009 11:30:27 AMSubject: Suggestions?? Guest guest
Hi Melinda, I feel your pain! Sleep deprivation is tough! Noah never slept through the night. He's 4 years old and still wakes up sometimes. My daughter, Mariella, started sleeping through the night at only 6 months old. I think the big difference for us is that Mari co-sleeps with us. Noah did not. I was insistant that he sleep in a seperate room in his crib. Even when he was casted and would wake 3+ times a night and I'd have to go in there to flip him over. I think he was always uncomfortable too (he had Torticollis, then a helmet for plagio, then a cast and now a brace. Now that my 2nd child sleeps through the night I wonder if it would have made a difference w/Noah if I had let him sleep with us. I think it would have. I know co-sleeping isn't for everyone...but I wanted to suggest it just in case you want to consider all options. Also, our doc recommended that we force postion her against her curve as much as possible when sleeping. Did you know 80-90% of growth hormones are released when you sleep?! For Mariella - the forced positioning is easy. I simply lay on her left side and she automatically positions herself towards mommy. One other suggestion too that worked for us...we wake her and give her a bottle at 10:30 pm before we go to bed. We're tried eliminating that late-night bottle, but everytime we do - she starts waking at 4:00 am. I think that 11 hours without a bottle is just too long for her to go. Good luck! ~Noah 4 years old9 months of casting in SLC; Currently on 1 1/2 years of bracingAnd Mariella 9 months old currently waiting and watching at 11* To: infantile_scoliosis From: mindylee1@...Date: Thu, 15 Oct 2009 15:30:27 +0000Subject: Suggestions??
