Depending on the severity of your child's disability, he/she may not always qualify for the deeming waiver. It is reviewed every year and there is always the possiblity that eligibility guidelines could become stricter. In addition, premiums for the deeming waiver are still a possibility. Just because it went away last year, does not guarantee they won't be reincarnated in some other form this year. If you were to choose Medicaid only, would you be able to add your son on to the insurance at a later date? Better make sure. They may not let you - or, they may exclude anything to do with his disability. Better, in my opinion, to try to get HIPP to pay his premiums and keep him on private with Medicaid as a secondary.
