Guest guest
My opinion... if you don't sleep at night you will feel lousy... I would stick to one dose in the am for two weeks. I know after "rejoining" the list I tried taking my Armour in two doses and it did not work for me (of course my stress level increased at the same time -- that's life) <grin> I understand that lack of sleep can be thyroid related, but the tiredness really CAN BE just plain lack of sleep or a sleep disorder. -----Original Message-----From: Courtenay Sent: Wednesday, September 08, 2004 8:08 PMTo: Texas_Thyroid_Groups Subject: My pillow and I went to the doctor's office.Hi everybody!I went for my monthly check-up with Menendez this morning, so that we could see how my new Armour regimen was doing. Guest guest
Yeah, for the most part, the tiredness I've been feeling is " different " than the fatigue I felt when I was hypothyroid on Levoxyl. What is not helping is that my husband goes through phases where he twitches in his sleep (nerve damage from stint as Ranger in the Army) and it wakes me up. He was in L.A. for two of the weeks I was on Armour, so I know it is not all his doing. I'm going to torque my dosage down slowly over the next week, and see what that does. With your experience as a reminder, it just goes to show that everybody is different when it comes to these things. I am still grateful for all the varied advice though. Thanks! Courtenay. Guest guest
What has helped me considerable with thyroid meds is to take it exactly on time...my sports watch only has one alarm so if I have to take it twice a day I just switch the time once I take meds to the next time. What does Menendez think of adding some T3? -e-

Guest guest
Did he take blood tests? It could be that you actually need more thyroid hormone. If you are in a continual hypo-thyroid state and sleeping, napping, dozing off and on all day, that will definitely keep you awake at night. Maybe once you are closer to an optimal dose, having enough energy during the day and doing more will increase your ability to sleep at night. Please post your results if/when you get them. Good luck! Guest guest
Another thought, Courtenay. Do you ever take your temperature first thing in the morning when you wake up? Try it for several days in a row with a mercury thermometer under your arm (don't get out of bed first and move as little as possible) for ten minutes and see what the results are. That's another good way to gauge hypothyroidism, if your temp is consistently low. -----Original Message-----From: A. Guest guest
You mean he's going to leave you on this very small dose of Armour for another two months?! I can almost guarantee you that your symptoms are going to get worse, not better, prolonging this tiny dose of Armour. I could see the more logical thing to do would be to up it just a tiny 15 mgs, then leave it there for another 4 to 6 wks, but this staying on 30 mgs I just can't see. What were your new lab results? Didn't he run those again to see where you're at, at least in the way of labs? Guest guest
Didn't you just say that you are on only 30 mgs of Armour, or is that someone else I'm thinking of?!? If it is you, you really can't torque it down any more. RE: My pillow and I went to the doctor's office. I'm going to torque my dosage down slowly over the next week, and see what that does. With your experience as a reminder, it just goes to show that everybody is different when it comes to these things. I am still grateful for all the varied advice though. Thanks! Courtenay. Guest guest
He would look at me, and say in that booming voice, " Courtenay, you know we can't add T3 to your regimen because Armour already contains more than the normal amount of T3 typical to the human body. " Menendez knows that the studies relating overabundance of T3 and calcium-deficiency are overblown, but he would never give me an additional T3 protocol. Guest guest
Thanks Jan for giving me the okay to talk about Dr Boyle.. I saw Dr Dons (endo) who begrudgingly gave me the T3 but at a lower dosage that Dr. Arafiles was giving me. I took my rx to Champs Pharmacy (used to be the Pill Box/Oak Hills) off Louis Pastuer. Rosie , Pharmacist was surprised that an endo prescribed T3...I told her of his unenthusiasm..asked him if she had names of doctors that prescribed T3...she suggested Dr. Boyle. I was starting to 'slip' on the lower dosage so that is why I saw Dr Boyle. He is not in a plush office, his office staff might be a little more alert but I had no problem with that...I wanted healing...and I feel I got it or am starting to get it...I told him that if I had a first born it would be his! I had been looking for a doctor like him for 40 years. He said many of my symptoms were thyroid related and he wanted to adjust meds..might take time/might have to tweak meds but he wanted to make sure thyroid was okay first then check out other symptoms, if there are any more symptoms. I was having some joint/muscle pain/stiffness (I'm 48, 30 lbs overweight and was having difficulty getting up from chair/bed)...he suggested MSM...I felt better this a.m....did my 15 minute Body for Life workout...if all goes well and I am not too tired from shredding (farm talk for cutting the grass in the fields, with tractor) I'll do a work out around 1:00 pm and again at dinner. I talked to Rosie this morning to tell her thanks and she said that she was happy I liked him. She had referred others to him and they were looking for plush offices/efficient staff....and they weren't that impressed with him. She has seeen many more people come from his office with prescriptions to be filled and has later seen the visual results so she thought that was a better indicator....why she referred me. -e-Jan wrote: One of the main reasons these state groups were set-up was so that folks could share info about doctors. Guest guest
Hi , Jan, and everyone-- I just got my test results from Wednesday in the mail from Menendez's office. He didn't want to up my medication until he saw the results, and typically we talk by phone the day after an appointment so he (we) can decide whether to up my meds or leave them be, or discuss anything else I might have missed that can be addressed in five minutes or less. This time, however, he was heading off for a two week vacation the very next day and didn't want to touch my meds until he was back and could look at the results. Menendez will be gone for ten days. The last time he upped my meds and went on vacation, I ended up having to see his fill-in endocrinologist because I had gotten very, very toxic on the Levoxyl. I am still on 30 mg of Armour. Though I am disappointed he did not up my medication, I think he made the right choice in making me wait for him to get back. I will be calling him in two weeks with a request to up the Armour by 15 mg., now that I have looked at my test results. I also realized that his office did a total T3 and not a free T3-- could someone remind me what the difference is between these again? Doesn't it have something to do with absorption? The test results are: T3, TOTAL 126 (60-181 NG/DL) T4, FREE .9 (.8-1.8 NG/DL) TSH 3.23 (.40-5.50 MIU-L) I know these results are not optimal, but I still feel WAY more functional than when I was on Levoxyl. I just started my menstrual cycle, and this time, instead of feeling as though I've been pushed down several flights of stairs, I feel as though I've only been pushed down ONE flight of stairs. That's an improvement, right? Thank you all for your advice and support! Best wishes-- Courtenay.
