Guest guest
Dear -- I really hope you can go. I totally understand about the energy issues though. Today is my eighth day on Armour; my fifth taking the full dosage. And I feel really funky and tired. I'm hoping this clears up soon. Best wishes-- Courtenay. Courtenay, This sounds like fun! Guest guest
Oh Courtenay, I'm so sorry to hear that. I can sure relate. What dose are you on? 1 grain? Did you ever get antibodies test results back? (If you did and posted that, I'm sorry if I missed it.) Take care. -----Original Message-----From: Courtenay Sent: Friday, August 20, 2004 3:45 PMTo: Texas_Thyroid_Groups Subject: RE: Thyroid Meeting/San Area Dear -- I really hope you can go. Guest guest
Thanks so much for your response, . I'm so bummed that I started feeling bad! The antibodies test apparently came back within range, but I haven't picked up a copy yet. When I spoke with my doctor on Monday, he said something about the fact that I probably have Hashimoto's, but his explanation was so rushed that I didn't understand it. He even repeated it twice. It's really weird... I started the Armour last Friday, but I split his prescribed dose in half because my menstrual cycle began the night before. I'm still having lots of fatigue with my cycle and I don't trust my body enough to try something new when I'm on it. So, I took this 15 mg dose for three days, and then on Monday started taking 30 mg. I was doing okay until I had a series of events happen, and I'm trying to piece together which one caused the reaction. 1) On Wednesday night, I didn't go to sleep until 3 a.m. because I was helping my husband pack for a trip to L.A.-- staying up that late usually makes me tired, but I did sleep until 11 the next day. 2) Thursday was officially the seventh day I was on the medication. Would that have any affect? Specifically on T4 intake? 3) On Thursday, I ate a baked potato and three bites of a Bill 's mystery meat sandwich. The last time I ate something from Bill 's was the night I almost passed out at the wedding. The symptoms were very similar, only less so. 4) I've been smoking more. I'm a bad, bad person. 5) My menstrual cycle ended Thursday. symptoms from yesterday/today lightheadedness brain fog exhaustion achiness, especially between shoulder blades general symptoms sinus problems blemishes (in places I haven't had in years, like my back. And I've got one IN MY NOSE. How is that possible?) exhaustion Would you explain to me why Armour is measured in grains versus milligrams? What constitutes a grain? I hope I didn't hit you with too much info.! Thanks so much. -- In Texas_Thyroid_Groups , " A. Weller " <nweller@u...> wrote: > Oh Courtenay, I'm so sorry to hear that. I can sure relate. Guest guest
Courtenay, and I always thought that eating soy was good for low calorie/low carb diets...does that mean those veggie burgers (Morningstar, Boca) aren't any good either? Yes, I would love your bulgar/tabbouleh ('makes you feel full') recipe. Your broth/homemade stock soup recipes would be great too. Also, the greatest farmer's market is the original one on S. Zarzarmora (day time visits only....)..take IH35S to Laredo...right/West on Laredo...left/South on Zarzamora...haven't been there in years but when I did go I frequented Fernandez brothers...got to know them well when I would order canteloupes by the box..loved those things. Yes, I do plan to be there on September 23...can husband go too? He's supportive and wants me to get better, besides we live approx. 30 miles from San and I try to combine trips (we are both retired). -e- (taking T3 meds, 's Syndrome supplements since July 25...lost 4 lbs ...finally have the energy to exercise..been exercising since Aug 15)
Guest guest
Please feel free to invite your husband-- you are so lucky to have someone supportive in your corner! I will also ask my husband to attend so the two of them can talk. Illness is really hard on families. You are right about the soy thing-- Morningstar, unfortunately is totally out of the picture. Soy protein can interfere with thyroid function. This also means you will have to avoid fast food as well, especially Mc's. Jan says that most people can eat soy lecithin and soy oil, but I've discovered that I can't seem to handle any of it. And if you're not eating either one of those, you pretty much can't have most packaged foods. You cannot have millet either, which turns up in most pre-packaged breads because it does the same thing as soy. You also should do some reading on goitrogenic vegetables. I've got a list if you need a copy. Okay, so when we start feeling better, we've got to go to the Farmer's Market on S. Zarzamora! During the meeting, I think we should plan a field trip to go. I will definitely post at least one of the soups and the tabbouleh recipe before the weekend is out. I'm going to post my favorite soup recipe-- good enough for company and so good when you don't feel well. Thanks for showing an interest. I love to talk about food. I noticed you're exercising! I'm so glad you feel well enough to exercise! It will improve your mood. Best wishes-- Courtenay. Guest guest
Wow, I am so confused. I got a page from my endo, Dr. Arem, who wrote this book: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0345429206/qid=1093061523/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/104-9535798-8382352?v=glance & s=books & n=507846 and my one page of instructions included a blurb about how I SHOULD eat soy a few times a week! I just bought Morningstar Farms sausage patties *today*! I'm hypothyroid, been on synthroid for over ten years, had RAI in the fall of 1993. BTW, I am in Friendswood, too. I just saw another new member who said that. Interesting. Anyway, I'm just confused and frustrated. Another list I'm on says avoid iodine. I take Centrum vitamins because I'm anemic...but they have 100% RDA of iodine. Help? Guest guest
Millet is a grain, so it should just say " millet " in the ingredients list. You will find it often in whole grain breads. My newest thing is buying Whole Foods brand breads at Whole Foods. They are the only breads that don't seem to contain millet, unless you make your own. And I'm sure as heck not going to eat Wonderbread-- it's so full of chemicals that roaches won't eat it. Guest guest
Debbie, I live in Falcon Ridge II, and I cut through Eagle Lakes every single day, LOL. We have lived here exactly a year. I'm 41, next month is our 15th wedding anniversary, I have two kids ages 7 and almost 4, one goes to Cline and one to Good Shepherd. I am a stay-home mom, used to be a computer programmer then systems analyst, then director of info systems at a large home health agency. My hubby and I are both Aggies, and he's now working in Houston at the Valero Refinery. He's been with his company fifteen years, as of *today* and we were relocated here last year. I'm from Corpus and he's from Dallas, originally. I worked in Dallas four years after college, and we met in Dallas, both working for the same defense company. Now tell me more about yourself! ) Re: Re: Thyroid> Meeting/San Area> > > Please feel free to invite your husband-- you are> so lucky to have someone supportive in your corner! > I will also ask my husband to attend so the two of> them can talk. Guest guest
On a health-related list like this, I should mention that I found out that I had cancer in January of 1991, after being married 16 months. I was treated at M. D. , though we lived a long way from Houston, and I was cured by the end of the year. It was Hodgkin's Disease and I had a big mass in my chest cavity, about the size of a grapefruit. One lump came up on my neck or I would have died. Anyway, I've always thought that all the radiation to my neck probably triggered my thyroid problems...I do know that they said I had a goiter before we started any treatment (which was chemo and radiation). Well, now I've recently learned that Graves is a not really a thyroid disease, but it's an autoimmune disease that attacks your thyroid...so I guess I've been wrong all along about the radiation triggering this? Also, I don't think I mentioned this, but four weeks ago I had orbital decompression surgery on my eyes, and so far, so good. I look pretty much like my old self again, and I'm happy about that. Re: Re: Thyroid> Meeting/San Area> > > Please feel free to invite your husband-- you are> so lucky to have someone supportive in your corner! > I will also ask my husband to attend so the two of> them can talk. Guest guest
, That is too funny we met each other on the WWW and live just streets away. I live on Parkview off of Eagle Lakes. I am 51, we have lived here 3 years. I have no children because of the pit tumor. So it is just my husband and myself (and two dogs and a cat.) We lived last in Baton Rouge, LA and I am an alumni of LSU!!!! My husband is from Arkansas. My husband is in the environmental field and is working with someone at Valero presently. Too funny. I have had a horrible time finding any decent doctors. Since I had that brain surgery three years ago it has been a very slow recovery for me. But I am finally getting a little better day by day. If you want you can e-mail me privately at dswhdl@.... Debbie --- " K. " wrote: > Debbie, I live in Falcon Ridge II, and I cut through > Eagle Lakes every single day, LOL.
