Hi Jan,

Let me know when you find the support group -- the Hideous

Diagnostics Survivor's Group one. I need to join! Yikes -- went for

a complete colonoscopy a couple of weeks ago which was not only

painful in itself (the doctor said I had a twisted and " tortuous "

colon and couldn't view the whole thing), so they made me fast for an

additional 24 hours and sent me the next morning for a barium x-ray

to view the rest of it. Hideous! Plus I had to drink 4 litres of

some terrible gag-inducing stuff the night before the colonoscopy.

I'm adding gastroenterologicaphobia to your list. Haha.

Did they inject you with a strange substance during your CT scan?

The one where you taste metal in the back of your throat? How are

you feeling?

> But what I need right now is a support group for those suffering

from hideous diagnostic procedures. . . .The CT scan was not bad. It

only took 15 minutes. The barium swallow, however, reminded me of

those fraternity initiations in which a new member died as a result

of being forced to drink too much alcohol or swallow quantities of

raw liver. . . .After the Hideous Diagnostic Survivors Group, the

Managed Care Victims Group will meet in the same room to compare

disallowed services. . . .Hey, this is convenient. It is the same

folks for both groups! We can just call this the Hideously Managed

Procedures Group, which has many of the same issues as those who were

abducted by Aliens. . . .

OMG I really can relate to the barium in BOTH ends. Had that done when I was just 15 years old and have not recovered from shaking every time I think of it still... followed only by fears of a Sigmoidoscopy... don't ask. That was when I needed a hysterectomy and they THOUGHT I had an intestine ready to or already rupturing. Not sure which hurt worse. I passed out during the barium enema, and the Sig.... I called that doctor everything but a white man. I wanted to shove something huge and hard up his rear... LOL

I have the reflux, but I had to stop my regular rounds of the Pepsid Complete, due to the anemia. I had to take it for around a couple of months at a time, and I frankly think that it was wiping out my stomach acids so much, that I had a hard time absorbing nutrients. It was one of a half dozen things that could have done this, but I did stop it anyway. The reflux is better, but every now and then I do take it, when I feel like I just can't stand it any more, away from my thyroid, of course. I knew that I had some esophageal scarring going on, when it turned more into a pain, when I bent over, rather than just "heartburn" sensations. It can also mess up your breathing on lying down, if it's happening in your sleep. Choking, coughing, etc...

Re: Re: doctor's appointment today/ pleased, but confused

I am sitting at home in front of my computer eating chocolate ice cream and drinking lukewarm coffee. I keep feeling like I need to clear my throat.

They found nothing on my vocal cords. Nothing showed up on the CT scan either. The doc said that my problems are most likely due to allergies and/or acid reflux. I did not think I had acid reflux, but it is possible to have it and not know it. They will give me a trial on a medication for acid reflux.

The one thing he noted was that my mouth and related structures are very small, so the endoscopy was difficult. He said that for any future surgeries, I need to have a really good anesthesiologist because of the difficulty of entubating me. I knew about the mouth being small. A dentist once told me that. I had replied that that was not what I was known for. . . . .

Chocolate ice cream is great for a sore throat. Yummm. Or even if

you don't have one.

I wonder if there is a connection between small mouths and Hashi's?

(lol) I've always been told that by dentists (more in the form of a

complaint) -- " you have such a SMALL mouth. " Sorry! When we came

back to S.A., I found a dentist with small fingers. Haha. Hey, it

works. Thyroid advocates = small mouths but large voices. :-)

Glad you're feeling ok.
