Guest guest
Good for you! There are so many fantastic workouts out there, and so little time! I let this one go too. I dunno... I did and didn't and I think the didn't really wins... when I'm away from the group for a while I realize, it was a good workout but just not good for me then I get back on and all the oooooooohing makes me think I should try again.... but no, I'm off that mini bandwagon and it is in the trade pile. Thank you for the reinforcement!!! ;-) Re: Kathy Weight Loss Workout I remember this one! It was one of my favorites when I first started working out, even though it's completely cheesy!!! I remember that the cardio was pretty steady and solid. This was a virgin circuit workout from 1990. At the very beginning Kathy kisses a baby girl, probably less than a year old or just over it and says something like, " Mommy has to go to work now! " so that kid is in her 20s now!! This was a very Kathy workout and it was very good but way too much dancey stuff in some of the cardio for me, so I'm pretty sure I'll trade it. There's a cardio warmup and then, I think, a short upper body workout with weights that I can't remember well except you're moving through the whole thing. In fact, this is really more of an AWT in some ways because all the toning is done with a lot of movement (like The FIRM's 4-limbed aerobics). There's 4 cardio workouts in a row, each teaching a different combination. Each one is about 8 minutes long. They don't seem to progress or have any themes but they are all different. After that there's a standing lower body toning with weights for about 5 or 8 minutes and it is 4-limbed style doing squats and lunges while you're moving, various leg lifts and other things too, nothing standing still. Then there's a cool down and stretch. Total workout time is about an hour. Some of the backgrounders are in a lot of her other workouts ( and Adina at least). Kathy is her usual super enthusiastic and energetic self but without obnoxious squealing or anything. There is quite a bit of cheese in this though! It switches very often between 3 different sets and 3 different kinds of costumes, from a gym with black outfits to something that reminds me a lot of the " road side " scenes in her matrix walking workout especially (and with very brightly colored outfits) and then the last cardio segment looks like it is shot on a roof and they're in 50s ish outfits and each backgrounder leads a short section of the workout! There's a lot of opportunity to add impact and intensity but there's always a low impact modifer. It was, overall, very good, probably solid intermediate level and the cheese was very entertaining. My only two complaints are that the choreography got too complicated at times to follow easily (there's not much instruction, Kathy does do some form pointers for some of the strength stuff but it is mostly cueing the move without describing or demonstrating) and the camera angles were insane! They'd show just the feet, but sometimes just 1 foot for 1 person and someone else's, you'd see just the heads and part of the torsos, it would come in from one angle or another unexpectedly and it switched back and forth constantly between Kathy appearing to be cueing live and then other times doing voice over within seconds of each other. The visuals made it very difficult to follow the already confusing (at times) choreography. Some of the moves were just straight athletic stuff and the visuals weren't a problem so much for those but there were enough times were I was so lost I had to just basically bounce around aimlessly that I really don't want to try it again because I don't think it will be any easier to get it (since I can't see what they're doing consistently enough). I'm glad to have tried it though and despite the confusion, I did get a really good workout from it. I was going to do Day 1 of the push ups challenge but forgot to and have to leave soon to meet some friends for dinner so I doubt I will but will try to remember to tomorrow instead.
