Guest guest
Hmmm, I don't think I posted what my workouts were last week. Nothing awesome, but getting better with consistency at least. I think it went like this: Mon - Treadmill walk/jog (mostly walk) 30 min + core work on the Wii with EA Sports Active 2 (EA2) Tues - dog walk Wed - Lower body with EA2 Thurs - Upper body with EA2 Fri - 15 min of sweaty intervals on elliptical Sat/Sun - nada This week so far: Mon - Treadmill, 30 min, walk/jog using Beatburn app on iPod Tues - dog walk + Lower body w/ EA2 Wed - Treadmill, 30 min, walk/jog using Beatburn app on iPod Projected: Thurs - dog walk + Upper body w/EA2 Fri - Treadmill or Elliptical Sat/Sun - optional I'm really enjoying the Beatburn apps! There are audio workouts built in, that are voice over your music. The music bpm is adjusted to match what the trainer (Britney) says. So, Britney will say, let's speed up - go 5mph for 2 min or something, and then songs are chosen from your designated songs and the tempo is adjusted to match the pace. Super cool. Same thing for the ellptical app, but she talks in strides per minute. EA Sports Active 2 (Wii) has been a good buy so far, I think. It was like $99 when it was released in December and I never would have paid that, but the reg price seems to be about $40 now, and I got for $20 on sale. It comes with sensors that strap to you left forearm and right thigh to track your movements. The forearm sensor also has a heart rate monitor that seems to be pretty accurate. It's also consistent so far, which is probably more important for trends to see if my cardio recovery improves. You do still need to use the remote from time to time, but the hands free exercises seem to work well. Oh, and there's an option to select dumbbells instead of the resistance bands. I find dumbbells less restrictive in this application. Anyway, there are tons of exercises and programs to chose from - and you can build your own from scratch. I've been using the random trainer generated option, 25-30 min workouts. I chose the easy level to get used to how everything works. Even on " easy " there are things like mountain climbers, plyo lunges, and jump squats! Eek. There is quite a bit of cardio mixed in - football feet, running, etc. I used the rebounder for pretty much all impact/cardio work, save for faux jump roping. I haven't used the balance board with it yet, but there are also exercises that use the board, too. Not sure how long I'll stick with EA2 for " strength training " work, but I'm still getting the workouts done at the moment, so I'll just keep going until my exercise ADD sets in, heh. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks! EA2 is growing on me. Today I had controller issues with it reading planks and straight leg lifts (while lying down) so I haven't quite figured out that quirk just yet. Everything else responds well, and I'm still surprised how reasonable the HR monitor read out seems - considering it's on my forearm and the whole game costs less than a real HR monitor, heh. Here is the exercise list for the PS3 version, but it looks the same as the Wii version to me. http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/4333760.page At first I was like - " hey, I don't have any football drills! " Then I read the desciption closer and realized that football = soccer, LOL. Soccer drills I do have, heh. Silly American. Hee. It seems like the " easy " level just means shorter - just one set, I think. " Cause I've had regular push ups, asnd full planks, etc. I might try making my own routine next week so I can try " hard " for some of the stuff to see the difference. And there are several exercises that I haven't seen yet, so maybe I'll check those out, too. Hugs, Sara > > Wow, that EA2 sounds pretty decent! I'm surprised the easy level for a Wii game would include the stuff it does too. Sounds like the music thing you've got going is working really well too. Someday, I might have an ipod and might care about these things. (My step-mother wants to give me her old one but has forgotten it the last 2 times I've seen her so who knows when I'll get it, not that I honestly care, I'm not sure if I want one or not but free is a good way to try it out at least.) > > Like you said, as long as you're getting the workouts in, that's the important thing and it sounds like you're doing great! > > >
Guest guest
Thanks, ! I did get in a brisk dog walk today (125 bpm with the youngest, lol) as well as 30 min of Upper Body (which also has cardio and core work) with EA2. Tpday during the workout I was thinking about trying to make a Noel style workout with EA2, like maybe a 3 day split. The reps are low on easy mode (i'm guessing the reps increase on harder modes since it doesn't tell you anything about how much to lift), and I could string those togther...hmmm...the possibilities! lol I even did about 20 minutes of stop and go hula hooping after EA2! Hee. I sure need more practice with that. Ha. For more bonus activity, not only have I been *standing* at the computer for the last 90 minutes using my nifty DH-made podium thingy - I've been standing on a wobble board. One footed at times. LOL If only I was so entertained by real exercise. :-D Hugs, Sara > > I agree with - you are being consistent and that's the most important > thing! Good for you, Sara!! > > >
Guest guest
That podium thingy sounds great! I just saw something on the news last night about people who stand or walk at work being much healthier than those who sit at desks. They even showed people walking on small treadmills while they were on the phone! So you ARE exercising while you're entertaining yourself, especially on a wobble board and 1-footed, that really is excellent work!! (whose butt is firmly planted on the couch) Re: Workout catch up Thanks, !I did get in a brisk dog walk today (125 bpm with the youngest, lol) as well as 30 min of Upper Body (which also has cardio and core work) with EA2. Guest guest
Hi Sara! That is really cool that the HRM works so well! The exercise look like they could be really challenging too, like a real workout! That was funny about soccer & football too, I would have done the same thing, it isn't until you see "heading" especially that you realize it is soccer! I'll keep reading about this from you, it is fun. I'm not ready to buy it but I'm at least thinking that if I found it really cheap I might try it. Dave might too since he seems particularly resistant to most videos but does like the Wii. Re: Workout catch up Hi , Thanks! EA2 is growing on me.
