Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought transfats were natural fats :that were somehow mechanically altered by heating, etc. This article :implies that transfats occur naturally?? : : The new soybeans are lower in the omega-3 oils but HIGHER in the omega-6 oils. Omega-6 oils are less prone to rancidity and will require less or no hydrogenation. That's the only way they can say the finished processed oil will have fewer transfats. The natural soybean oil has zero transfat before hydrogenation. Those types of articles seem to be written for the SAB (standard American brain) instead of presenting truth clearly. So if these are the " new and improved " soybeans then what are the current varities of soybeans, " old and sucky " ? Darrell

Linolenic acid is not a trans fat. In the first paragraph, what they were getting at is that a lower pufa oil has less of a need of hydrogenation, because it is more stable, and hydrogenation is used to increase shelf life, among other things.
