Guest guest
Your doctor can do a series of blood work that will test for an elevation in strep titers or antibiodies.
Guest guest
Hi, I am doing more research about PANDAS because Luke had such a sudden onset of severe OCD symptoms and had trouble swallowing and peeling hands and feet a few weeks later ( may be symptom of strep). I was talking to my mom last night and after all these years she confided in me that she had OCD " bad thought " symptoms quite severely as an adolescent. We talked and I had the " aha " moment that this happened for her after she had scarlet fever at age 12. She had never told anyone!! Interestingly enough she remembers two periods in adolescene where she really suffered and most of her adult life since, symptoms have been very mild if nonexistent. How do I go about starting this process of evaluation? if it was PANDAS as a trigger I want to do anything I can to help him get rid of the strep, if it is not then no stone was left unturned. Thanks,
Guest guest
I look forward to see what kind of responses that you get from your post. I too have often wondered about PANDAS. My 8 year old daughter had a severe onset of OCD (bad thoughts) when she was 6. She tested for strep at that time. She was treated with antibiotics and the bad thoughts stopped as suddenly as they began. About 1 year later her bad thoughts came back again with less severity. She was tested for strep again and tested positive, but for a different strain that her doctor believed was not related to PANDAS. Since then her bad thoughts have been very few and far between, but other symptoms have expressed themselves. She is now on 25 mg of Zoloft. Anyway, I still haven't figured out what the significance of PANDAS is...does my daughter have OCD because of PANDAS or did the potential PANDAS just exaggerate/worsen what was inevitable? Just some more questions...
