Guest guest
I had a pinched nerve about 5 years ago. It was caused by heavy lifting, which caused my spinal disc to slip out and press on a nerve. The pain was both in my lower back and down my leg. I had surgery after 6 months on pretty bad pain. The surgery worked well for me, and have not had any problem at all since then. Regardless of what is causing yours, you need to see a doctor. If it is a slipped disc, surgery isn't the only option. Sometimes doctors prescribe prednisone to reduce inflammation, or physical therapy can often help. In my case, surgery was warranted, but I was out of the hospital within 23 hours, and took a 2 mile walk within 3 days. Good luck! --- imasthrngirl wrote: > Hi all- I have a question. Guest guest
Dear Traci, I get similar pain but probably not the same pain as you have. My lower back hurts and it is mostly on my left side. Sometimes it does go down to my left leg and sometimes it goes up my back. This is very painful. I have a few theories about my pain. I have some damage in my lower back. I have been told it may be my sciatic nerve inflamed, pinched nerve and also a body mechanics thing. I believe mine is all of the above. If I relax and rest it helps I also put what I believe is Pepper cream on it this helps some. A very hot shower helps a little bit. My pain comes and goes. Although it does seem to be getting worse. I get this more frequently and it tends to last longer and the pain seems to get more intense. Moving and bending really aggravates my back. However if I stay in one position to long my back stiffens up and it is worse. This is very painful for me and my pain pills don't even come close to helping this pain. Does any of this sound like your pain? My Doc. gave me some back exercises to do and referred me to Physical Therapy. I would definitely get this checked out. I hope you will get some relief soon. Let us know what you find out and how you are doing. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Love, jatw@...
Guest guest
, that is it exactly- except the pain is all the way across the back, through to the front, and worse on the right side, and down my right leg. When I woke up this morning it was fine, but now I am sitting here with the rice sock heating pad on it again. I think I have experienced this before, and it just takes some time and rest to get the swelling around the affected nerve to decrease so the nerve can get back into proper alignment, then I should be fine again. I hope. You said you still have trouble with yours? I am sorry- this is a really annoying, almost unbearable pain- and no- the pain med.s do not seem to have any affect on it at all. Of course, if I wasn't on the pain med it would possibly be worse- who knows? Well, maybe I can get some rest today or tonight and all will be back to " normal " tomorrow. Then it will just be something else to deal with instead. LOL. Have a great day. Love, Traci > Dear Traci, > > I get similar pain but probably not the same pain as you have. Guest guest
Traci, I believe first and foremost, you should have a doctor check out any new or strange symptoms... however, in the mean time, I have a trick that my help more than you think. I have had the shooting pain in the groin and leg for many years, off and on. It was always worse when I was pregnant. My pain was caused by the psyatic nerve being pinch from the hip being misalligned. My doctor recommended a simple fix that helps tremendously. Sleep with a pillow between your knees if you sleep on your side, under your knees if you switch to your back, under your ankles if you are a tummy sleeper. I used to fix all my pillows at bedtime and wish I could just climb in bed and sleep like a normal person. Now, after 15 years of " knee pillows " I am happy to just be able to sleep. My husband kept stealing mine, he found he slept better, so now we both have them. LOL. If I sleep without it, I am in horrible pain the next day. Try it! Hope it helps, and be sure to call your doctor to make sure you don't have anything serious. Guest guest
Traci, I have been going through the same thing too friend. For the past week, I have been having a lot of lower back pain, where it has woken me up and sometimes in the morning, especially at work, I am having a hard time moving certain directions and it will really hurt, and I NEVER have any kind of back pain. I have always had a very strong back, so I definitely understand what you are going through. I have one of those microwave heat packs, made of rice and I stick it in the microwave for 3 minutes and apply it to my lower back, this seems to help, and mine is made of heather too, so the soothing smell is also very comforting. I did ice my back down first and then I applied the warmth. If you ice and then apply heat, hopefully this will help. I have taken my ultram for muscle relaxation too, and this seemed to help as well. It is strange how some of us will experience the same symptoms at the same time isn't it? I hope that you have a better night Traci. Love, Sue #

Guest guest
Oh dear Steph, I feel so for you. When my momma was sick that happened to me and she was 300 lb. It is not a good thing. Guest guest
Last year, I had facet injections in my neck and upper back, because of chronic pain and pinched nerves from 3 thoracic fractures and a slipped cervical disc that was touching my spinal cord, and degenerative and inflammatory arthritis from Stills. The Neurosurgeon said that surgery was not an option, because of my medications, medical condition, and it would likely do more damage than good. She stated She never attempts surgery unless she there is at least an 80% chance of success. Pain and muscle relaxant medication was not working at all, so they injected cortisone. The treatments have now worn off, and I am almost back to where I started. But I was told that this would happen when I got the injections. They were only expected to last a year, but actually lasted about 16 months. MY left arm and hand are weak again, and I can't feel my fingertips in my left hand. A chiropractor is out of the question, because I could easily be paralyzed from the neck down if my neck is twisted the wrong way. Then, last fall, my dog hit me from behind, knocking my legs out from under me, and I slammed backwards onto my concrete driveway, landing on my lower back and pelvis. This caused pinched sacroiliac and sciatic nerves, as well as sheared off muscles that rise on top of the sharp outer edge of my pelvis. I've spent most of this year laying down. I can't sit in a chair, because of the pressure on my lower back, and cannot lay with any pressure on my left side. I also cannot lay on my stomach or right side, because of my degenerated neck. I was told that after my knee surgery, my back might " fix " itself, but that didn't happen. I few weeks ago, I got " trial " injections in my lumbar spine. They are testing to see which nerves respond, then they will go in and burn them off. The test injections helped about 1/2 the problem, but the other half, especially the damaged muscles and one sacro nerve that travels down my left leg, still hurt like heck, and I still can't sit or stand for long. So I have to go back for more trial injections, but this time, they are going to use the " shotgun " approach, and inject every possible site to give me some relief before cooking off several pinched nerves. By the way, MRI and x-rays showed nothing. The neuro doc said this is not unusual. Anyway, just wanted to share my experience with others with similar pinched nerve problems. -Brent PS: Don't underestimate the therapeutic value of ice and heat packs. Pinched nerve? Hi all- I have a question. I have been having some pretty unbearable back pain for the past two days now, and have been trying to cope with it the best I can. This pain is in my lower back, all the way across but worse on the right side; it also seems to radiate through to the front in my groin/lower abdomen area. I have been using a rice sock for heat and cold packs, too. I have soaked in the tub in hot water, and all of this helps somewhat, but only temporarily. What I am worried about is what is causing it? I have endometriosis, so it could be that, or it could be a pinched nerve, but it could also be my kidneys, too. I am more inclined to believe it is a pinched nerve, because I attempted to do some sweeping earlier today (thinking some moving around might help) and I started getting extreme shooting/stabbing pains that went from my back all down my right leg. So, I think it is a pinched nerve. What I need to know is this: is there anything I can do that I am not doing already? Should I take some Flexeril (muscle relaxer)? Does anyone know of a stretch or anything I may be able to do to relieve this? It is getting to be very unbearable. Any advice would be appreciated.
Guest guest
Thanks Caroline, for the advice- but I have been doing that for years. I have so many pillows that most of them " reside " next to the bed on the floor during the day because there is not enough room on the bed when it is made. I also have the body pillow which is a big help- or was. Poor thing is about used up and flat- time to get a new one I think. LOL. What I have been doing today is still using the rice-sock heating pad and when sitting in a chair I am using a pillow behind me to keep me straight and forward; this is obviously helping some because the pain has been less severe today. I should be pretty good by tomorrow. Must have just been a pinched nerve. Traci > > > Traci, > I believe first and foremost, you should have a doctor check out any new or strange symptoms... however, in the mean time, I have a trick that my help more than you think. > Smile, Caroline > > > > --------------------------------- >
