Thanks, Donna!

Kathy Instant Workout - Toning

This is the last of three 20 minute workouts on this VHS tape for me to try (the other 2 are a stretch and a cardio workout). I didn't like the other 2 much and this didn't do a lot for me either so this tape is going bye-bye. It is supposed to be total body but was mostly lower body and abs. After a cardio warm up, the lower body includes a lot of squats, lunges and balancing versions of them. There's a little bit of shoulders (lateral raises) during the lower body, you can do it with or without weights, most people did them without. (Kathy probably talked about that in her very lengthy introduction I didn't watch.) There's a very quick stretch for the legs then onto abs. The abs were various kinds of crunches that moves quickly and kept you working. After abs you do a very fast stretch and then right onto your stomach for push ups. She had everyone doing them on their knees which actually worked well for me today because my abs were still yelling (the stretch was not at all adequate, none of the stretches in this were) and they did NOT want to do push ups on my toes. This workout is also high rep so there were a lot of push ups (and everything else). Last exercise moved you onto one knee doing rows or something like that with or without weights. The only cue to use weights is an on screen message. I grabbed mine. That was it for upper body and a quick stretch for upper body finished things off. The good thing about this workout is that it moves at a good clip, quickly transitioning to each exercise so no time for rest, you do get a decent quick workout if you work hard, plus the balancing moves add to the difficulty. It just wasn't complete enough for me, even for 20 minutes. Lesson relearned from this too... I rolled out of bed and into the basement without any food. Very bad move. I woke up before my alarm and laid in bed trying to sleep for a while and I was already getting hungry. By the time I was into the workout I was very aware of being hungry and that didn't help me at all. I need to at least eat a banana or something small & quick before I workout tomorrow (another one planned for before breakfast). When I told DH about that he said, "Didn't you do that before and decided you needed to eat before you workout?" Yeah... I guess I needed to test it again. I'm glad this was a quick workout at least (and I'm done testing myself on that one)!
