Guest guest
Hi Jan, we have a medical school right here in SA TX. I had gone there for 2 yrs but finally had to stop as it was costing me way too much, more than a paycheck. dont be led to believe they are cheaper or free... no such thing. at least not in this city. not many people qualify for anything down there now. I went there during my hyperplasia and what later turned out to be a thyroid disorder. they charged me $222.00 per month and a CT or MRI was going to be $1500. I dont have that kind of money, and we cant afford insurance at all, that takes a whole paychck, plus $1000 deductible plus the 20%.. I just dont have it..and probably never will unless I win the lottery !!! I am now going to a small clinic and my office visits are only $29 and the DR said he can get my CT or MRI for about $700 if I pay cash. I wish I had that much, but I dont. I barely have $50 left over after bills are paid. and now that I am on 4 medications my prescriptions are running close to $100 a month.and if he raises the dose of amount of tablets of 2 of my meds..well....so there goes my extra $50 !! but what I was wondering.. is that since I was put on the 90 mg of armour... its as though what ever was inside there has shrunk, its not much of a bother at all. and I was just wondering if this was possible, and if all I needed was the stronger dose of armour.?? I can sleep at night with out any problem, only on a few occasions I had to move the windpipe over. but considering its been a year now going from 30mg,60mg, to the 90mg. it seems like the 90mg armour has done the trick... my hair has grown in so much that its like I never had lost any. my female problems are all cured now, in fact they are better than at any time in my life. I no longer have the horrible pain every month, which started when I was 12 and got worse over the years. thats gone, so now I know what its like to have normal cycles. its amazing. no one would believe the pain I went thru each month, there were times I could not turn over in bed, I could not walk across the room, and there were some months where just breathing hurt everything inside me,. thats all gone, no more pain at all. its just amazing. I wish they had tested me when I was younger, I might have been spared all this pain. I wont be getting another TSH until after july. we are now doing it only once a year to see if all is well. unfortunately my hypoglycemia has turned into diabetes , I have been on 2 different medications and see the DR wed. to talk about increasing the glucophage I take now. and for some reason my blood pressure has started going up.. but at least the thyroid has gotten better !!!!!!!!!!!! LOL. Lin > A suppressive dose of thyroid hormone may shrink a nodule or a goiter. > > But if it is still noticeably pressing on your windpipe, then you may need a thyroidectomy. Guest guest
HI mary, I am doing a lot better than before, other than the diabetes now. I dont know about the T3 and diabetes. had not ehard of that. there is a ton of diabetes in my family, just about every member on my Dads side is diabetic and half of them on my mom's side. so I am sure it was something I was destined to have. altho I had been hypoglycemic all my life. they told me ti could do a flip flop. it did. my cholesterol is low, the last DR remarked it was really good, the bad was low and the good was where it should be. so she was pleased with that. homocysteine? I dont know, what would that loko like on a test ?? I had a complete panel done, but the used a lot of 3 letter abbreviations, so I dont know what that one would be on this test. I know under hemotology it has ; HGB 11.9 (12.0-16.0) out of range HCT 38.4 (39.0-49.0) out of range RBC 4.30 (4.20-5.40) I dont know if any of these are what you were talking about... my T3 and T4 ; T3 3.7 (2.3-4.2) T4 1.1 (0.08-1.8) I get my armour at costco, which is the cheapest in town... and am very happy with how it has helped me. I am at 90 mg now. but doing ok. this is a price list of the armour at costco... anyone with a costco near them, check it out. name package size qty ( ) (manufacturer) 30 50 100 ARMOUR THYROID 30MG TABLET(FOR) $7.07 $9.77 $16.57 Drug Description and Image ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- name package size qty ( ) (manufacturer) 30 50 100 THYROID 60MG TABLET(MAJ) $3.69 $4.19 $5.49 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- ARMOUR THYROID 60MG TABLET(FOR) $7.19 $10.09 $17.59 Drug Description and Image ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- name package size qty ( ) (manufacturer) 30 50 100 ARMOUR THYROID 90MG TABLET(FOR) $9.79 $14.29 $25.69 Drug Description and Image ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 10 Date: Mon, 5 Apr 2004 15:19:16 -0500 Subject: Re: Re: do ya'll remember my problem ? I remember Lin because of the windpipe problem and hair loss. I'm so glad to know that you're feeling so much better, you give me hope. Could it be the greater amt of T3, with the blood sugar? There are so many factors there, it's hard to know. I know that you probably do your cholesterols, etc....but I'm wondering have you had a homocysteine? It can be a greater indicator of what's going on inside your blood vessels. How about your diet? What were your last Free T3 and Free T4 readings? Guest guest
Hi Jan........ I guess going up to the 90 mg has made the difference for me. I know when I went to the 60 mg., my TSH was 6.04 and then it dropped to 2.074, and then a few months later it was up to 3.2..thats when we went to the 90 mg..and last TSH was at 2.322 and DR wants me to stay there. I told him I seem to feel better when its under 2. so this is close enough I suppose. I will get tested again in July. should I ask for the T3 andT4 also since its been a year?? I dont know how often one should get those tested. the new DR is a PA. he works in t he Rose Medical Clinic on Pat Booker Rd. his name is DR 2318 Pat Booker Rd. Universal City, TX. 78148 (210)659-0323 just in case anyone is looking in that area. he seems to work real well with me, of course I have only been going since Nov., or about 4 visits. but... he seems to be willing to discuss and work with me. and had no problem prescribing armour. I'll let you know how it goes a few months down the road and if he is still on my good list ..LOL Lin Message: 15 Date: Mon, 5 Apr 2004 14:52:54 -0700 (PDT) Subject: Re: Re: do ya'll remember my problem ? Yes, a large enough dose of Armour is often adequate for shrinking nodules and goiters, and it is the first thing that should be tried. The TSH needs to be kept quite low for this to work, and there is no guarantee that it will work. But you seem to be going in the right direction. You might need a slightly larger dose of Armour, but that is hard to judge without a Free T3 and Free T4. Who is your new doc?
