I need to buy sutures and have discovered that there are many more

variables involved than I had realized. I don't plan on doing

anything more than two layered closures of lacerations, not on the

face. I was going to get 4-0 and 5-0 nylon and 3-0 and 4-0 vicryl,

3/8 " . Any recommendations out there on what brand and what type/size

needle? Thanks,

I guess it depends on where you are. I bought a bunch of surgical supplies

from Ebay (tools sutures scapels etc) but the only ones I use are 4-0 and

5-0 nylon (for excisions) and lots of " DERMABOND " for small lacerations-

fast but not cheap, but not too expensive on Ebay. Big lacerations that

might require layered closure usually just do not walk in to my office- I'm

sort of glad about that, too, since the solo style does not usually

accomodate someone actively bleeding in the waiting room while I'm with

another patient. If you do expect to see urgent walkins with that degree of

tissue disruption, or planning on doing large excisions in the office, I

guess the vicryl 4-0 vicryl would make sense. I 'm not sure what every else

is doing.
