I put a product called Balmex on his lips at night after he's asleep. It's a healing agent and works well. I've used it on my own lips (but it's creamy white so we don't use it during the day) and it is great for any scrape, and wonderful for diaper rash as well! I've seen a lot of kids with this habit and it seems the more dry and chapped the lips get, the greater one feels the need to lick and pick! Hope it helps! Thank you! ------------- My son did this too - every fall and winter - and his lips were swollen and cracked from licking them so much. And, due to some SID issues (sensory integration disorder) he REFUSED to put chap stick on his lips. He also won't wear sunscreen in the summer or lotions on his skin of any kind. Medication wiped out the lip licking anxiety symptom, and luckily we haven't seen that in a year or so. He was on Luvox and Risperdal and then later, Strattera, and that seemed to knock it out.
