Guest guest
Hi Pete and all, Well, I just actually purchased a new computer with Vista and am having a horrible time even trying to get a driver for the dongle. Do you think it would be worth it to just erase everything on the system and just start over with making the new computer windows XP? I should be able to do that, shouldn't I? Thanks! Guest guest
It would be such a great idea that Microsoft has made it pretty much impossible. You can buy a computer with XP (if you look around enough), or you can buy one without an operating system and load XP yourself. But removing Vista and loading XP does not seem to be doable from what I've heard. I'll see if I can help you get things set up when I'm in Milwaukee for the workshops. No guarantees, though. This is an operating system that appears to have been designed to drive heavy traffic back to Macintosh! It's the worst abomination I've seen in quite a few years of working with computers. Guest guest
Hi Pam, Wait wait!!! I was having the same trouble and very upset. Talked on the phone to Pete for an hour and then to Bruce (pocket neurobics).. Bruce figured out how to do it with Vista. I think there needs to be a fix program for this hellofamess thingy called Vista. Anyway, I got the BE installed and took the computer with me to California where the screen got broken... ugh ugh.. So, havent been able to use it. All this expensive hardware and software and just lotsa trouble. There has to be something easier. Lots easier. FIRST of all there needs to be a NON-geek doing the betas on all this stuff and there isnt. Vista looks like a classic nightmare. BE needs to be more user friendly too and its not. Im frustrated to say the least. Just dont erase anything yet... My friend just donated her new laptop with Vista because it loads everything so SLOW and she hates it ---couldnt stand it and left it in the closet... just wait... Pete or Bruce can get the driver loaded... but I hope someone makes a quick fix for this nightmare. Guest guest
It sounds to me like you have some access to expertise, , and I'm hoping I can tap into it. I can run BE in Vista (Business edition) without problems. However, I have had tremendous difficulty finding the records that have been recorded. Documents, and even folders, that are visible while using BE simply don't appear if I go looking for them via the C drive, My Documents, My Recent Documents, etc. I've found a work-around in that once I manage to figure out where the documents (or their shortcuts) are hidden, I can save a shortcut onto my desktop. If I click on the shortcut, I can't just go to the record, because the link isn't right. It requires a search of my entire system, and then I get a pop-up asking me whether I want to repair the link from the shortcut to the document itself. Once it's repaired, all is well, and the material is visible. I haven't yet been able to save a document itself onto the desktop until after it's been linked to a shortcut. It's as if Vista is playing a shell game with the visibility of the material. After all this, I can load them into the Excel macro for an assessment. The workaround is frustrating, because quite often, I forget which pathways work from one time to the next, but it does function. Does your contact have some suggestions for how to keep Vista from hiding the records? It doesn't matter to me whether it's a Vista feature or an issue with BE compatibility; I'd just like to know what to do to resolve it. Thanks very much! Guest guest
Make a shortcut on your desktop. Put in the following location: c:\Users\you\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\BioExplorer Replace "you" with your user name. Then when you doubleclick on that shortcut, it will take you to the BioExplorer folder where the data is stored. The session data will be in the Sessions folder. jim Re: Re: latest programs, VISTA It sounds to me like you have some access to expertise, , and I'm hoping I can tap into it. Guest guest
My husband said to search - downgrade vista to xp - in Google. Yahoo search doesn't turn up the same results. We build systems and troubleshoot maddening computer problems as a sideline. I don't understand much of it, just have deft fingers and do any mechanical work. And, yes, it's very possible to uninstall vista and replace with XP. I know engineers who are ready to switch to the competition because of the Vista issue, something they would have laughed at a year ago.
