Guest guest
I've been in a dilemna for quite a while with a lot of New Age ideas - I like the idea of thinking positively and I like the idea of that which we put more energy into will create more of the same. But it bothered me to think ourselves as the final arbiter of everything that happens in life - there was no room for G-d in this way of thinking. And also as bad, what do people think of themselves if they don't "succeed," don't heal, don't get rich, don't have good marriages - I think alot of criticism of mb is exactly on that focus, if you are sick, then you just aren't doing "it" right - and that bothers me alot. Yes, we should always try to improve our lot in life, but feel we could totally control everything??? Perhaps it's human nature to want to have that control, but I feel it's humbling to know we can't. and arrogant to think we can. And happily I just received an article saying it even better than I can. Even in our wishes, we need balance. http://www.aish.com/societyWork/arts/-The_Secret-_Revealed.asp Klara No need to miss a message. Get email on-the-go with Yahoo! Mail for Mobile. Get started. Guest guest
thanks for bringing this up, Klara! I have to admit, I am so new to mb and am even guilty of this now. The other day my partner was relaying a conversation he had with a friend about mb. His friend said he had heard of it, but that his friends' son had come down with rickets as a result. (His friend did say he wasn't implying we would give Ari rickets or anything...) But what did I say? " Hmmm, they must not have been doing it right " !!!! LOL! I have been in/out of the US born New Age scene, in a myriad situations. Most of them re: gemstone healing, Reiki, bodywork, etc. IME and IMO, it is a watered down version of some potent teachings. These teachings have roots from a lineage of Ascended Masters, of which it is said Jesus is also a member of. (I have not surfed this site much, but it has a nice pictoral representation on the first page of the I AM Presence. http://www.templeofthepresence.org/) Have you ever seen the " I AM Presence " teachings? They talk about the same concepts as the woman who wrote " The Secret " , of which she is referring to your Christ self, or the I AM Presence. Invoking this higher self into all action in the universe, for me, does not really negate the language of God. (I hope I do not offend here by spelling out God, or even writing some of this, I know we come from different backgrounds of faith) When we invoke this higher self, it is knowing this Presence can't be tainted by earthly experience. It does not hold karmas, it does not have personality flaws/tics, it is who we are as the likeness of God's image. When I was studying these teachings, I found it was indeed work to bring this Presence fully into the body, to bring it down. It's not to say one isn't doing the same thing in different religions, in holding fast to prayer and service. I think with so much it is all a matter of language and subtle shifts of focus. What I wanted to say here is the choppy part of being humble and human is, for me, to understand we are all this Presence but with different layers of experience and personality. I think where it all intersects can be joyous and truly amazing, but in other climates (say politics) it is often painful and demoralizing. Where is the language where we can all meet and understand each other? I have asked myself this many, many times. Living in the States, and traveling for 5 years in India helped me to see that different countries do indeed possess certain vibrations and unique characteristics. All have a purpose, but what I find so fascinating about the States is that it is " trying " to do it outside of a doctrine. The New Age precepts were probably born out of the Theosophical movement and the 60's Eastern curiousities combined, (this is sheerly my own speculation) but it's refreshing to see it so completely open and available to anyone who wants to expand consciousness. (I also see how it is wide open for people who are egotistical, who claim to channel every being under the sun, ad infinitum...) We must all weigh it with our own inner voice and purity. I'm feeling a little bit OT here, and rambling on...but thank you for allowing me to write and think out loud. I like that we are all able to ask, question, reflect, and then repose. ;-) much love, Holly > > I've been in a dilemna for quite a while with a lot of New Age ideas - I like the idea of thinking positively and I like the idea of that which we put more energy into will create more of the same. Guest guest
I just wanted to say I'm not claiming the explanation of the I AM Presence is the " way it is " ...just something I found helpful along the way! ;-) Holly
Guest guest
I just started reading the book! Have you read it or did you see the DVD? I feel the same way you do about it and I've only just begin. I read one part where they were actually saying if you were in a car accident you caused it yourself! I can sure tell you the one I was in back in 2000 was not something I wanted or caused. I think it's terrible to tell people that they are responsible for such things. Peace, Reggie > > > > I've been in a dilemna for quite a while with a lot of New Age ideas - I like the idea of > thinking positively and I like the idea of that which we put more energy into will create > more of the same. But it bothered me to think ourselves as the final arbiter of everything > that happens in life - there was no room for G-d in this way of thinking.
