Hello list

and especially L. Gordon. I have been following the list-serve without

participating for several years and still remember the epiphany I had while

attending Dr. ’s lecture at AAFP convention. I am a solo

physician. My wife does the billing and practice management and we share

an administrative assistant. My practice is both fulfilling and exciting

and I am looking for a partner who shares my professional interests.

Below is a copy of the advertisement I have sent to the American Academy

of Home Care Physicians. Anyone interested is absolutely invited to

contact me and apply or just come up and visit.

I started my 100% home

care practice in June, 2003 with one patient. I now have over 600 charts

with 300 active patients. I have not been able to accept a new patient in

over 3 months despite a daily barrage of requests. I follow my patients

in the hospital and have full ICU and CCU privileges. I am board

certified in Palliative Medicine and Family Practice and perform many necessary

procedures myself in the home or hospital. I am the Medical Director of

one of the local hospices with an excellent reputation and a census of

70. Our practice also has a contract to make home visits and serve as the

attending physician for a small group of severely developmentally delayed individuals

who have been transitioned out of institutional care and now live in the

community. This is a fascinating program which has been tremendously

successful and is very rewarding on all levels. Our practice is

completely paperless and we have an excellent electronic medical record

system. Our collection rate is 94%.

I am looking for a

Family Physician or motivated IM physician, board certified, with an interest

in Palliative Medicine and love of Geriatrics. The candidate should be

fired-up about practicing medicine and wake up each day loving her/his job as I

do. The candidate must be able to adapt to the constantly changing

environment of this type of practice and be willing to explore new ideas and

concepts. The candidate should be very computer literate, knowledgeable

of home care practices, able to work well in group meetings as she/he would

become a co-medical director of the hospice. The candidate must be able

to manage complex patients in the hospital.

This practice is also

ideally suited for an experience Advanced Practice Nurse. As noted

above, the candidate must have a strong interest in Palliative Care and have or

be committed to obtaining certification in palliative care. APNs who may

be interested in this position should read the attached monograph and see if

this is something they would be interested in. The APN candidate should

also be computer literate, knowledgeable of home care practices, able to work

well in group meetings and willing to round in the hospital with the physician.

As a rural FP for many

years, I have delivered 1000 babies, performed 300 c-sections, taught the AAFP

course on lower endoscopy, was a vasectomy consultant for Planned Parenthood,

and more. Memphis

is on the verge of tremendous growth both in the Palliative and Home Care

arenas. Future possibilities include academic appointments, community and

media involvement, lecturing, and expansion to include office based treatment

of patients.

Anyone interested

should e-mail a resume to the address below. Alternatively, I would love

to have anyone interested in seeing how my practice runs come to Memphis for a

ride-along. Unfortunately, I am unable to answer practice related

questions over the phone unless you are seriously considering applying for this

position.
