Guest guest
I think they are evil. Every time I've had one, I've gotten so many of the symptoms, I might as well have had the flu anyway. No thanks. Courtenay. So what does everyone think of FLU shots?
Guest guest
I get it, dh (who is hypo) gets it, and both teens get it. Wouldn't go without. The girls got the first 2 we gave this year, and dh and I got 2 from the last vial of vaccine we had. None of us have had the flu since we started. > So what does everyone think of FLU shots? Guest guest
I work in a University and am exposed to a lot of staff, faculty, and students. Last year I didn't get a shot and I did get the flu -- I could not get out of bed for 4 days straight. It came at a time when I was already very sick. I'm sure being that ill did not help my adrenals. I was thinking about getting the shot this year. However, I have read that people with autoimmune disease should avoid flu shots and vaccines. I'm going to ask my doctor and see what he thinks. It's a difficult decision. > So what does everyone think of FLU shots?
Guest guest
I have access to flu shots for free because of my job, but decline to take them. Sometimes I am a real puzzle to figure out, but I have never had a cold, or the flu, and I am afraid to get a flu shot... thinking I might jinx that. You would think with Hashis I would be susceptible to things like that... go figure. Of course, I never got chicken pox, either, when all my siblings had it. Guest guest
I take a flue shot. Of course this year, I probably will not be able to get one. Our supplier canceled our entire 2004 order yesterday. Next year, I am going to order directly from Aventis and from more than one secondary wholesaler. This is just absurb. We cannot get any pedi flu from Vaccines For Children. All children on that program have to go to the health department. My understanding that the only docs and other entities who have vaccine got it either direct from Aventis or from a wholesaler who ordered through Aventis. Again, the pt is never first. Guest guest
I think that I made a Grave mistake, so to speak, (pun intended), last fall, when I decided to go ahead with the flu shot, being as I work in a healthcare facility. I mean, look at my high thyroid antibody counts, as of March of this yr., in the thousands. Now maybe they would have climbed up there anyway, and certainly, there is more than one contributing factor, but this COULD have been the very one that helped them along. I knew, at that time, that I had Hashimoto's Disease, but I didn't realize to what extent this went. I also had the Hep B vaccine way back at the end of '93, and I will have no idea how this effected me. It was a couple months later that I was diagnosed with thyroid disease. Yes, it had already been going on for yrs, but I could have helped it along with these things. However, get Hep or the flu can be a very grave thing for most of us, in particular, but with our immune systems, who knew whether these shots would even work or not? flu shots So what does everyone think of FLU shots? Guest guest
My understanding, from an article I read in the newspaper, was that the major company that supplies the U.S. with the vaccine, got shut down by a foreign government, for reasons that were not clear at all in this article. Guest guest
Chiron, a British company, was shut down by the British government for contamination problems. They had announced about 6 weeks ago that they had problems with contamination and would not be able to ship unitl mid to late October. They were set to supply about 1/2 the US supply of flu vaccine, the other 1/2 coming from Aventis, a France based company. We had ordered directly from Aventis and received ours in September. I have 3 left in the 'frig that I am holding for our high risk patients. Well, 4. I was holding one for my 78 y/o mother who just finished chemo for breast cancer but she can get one at her docs office after all. An allergist we know who had ordered 800 doses from Aventis had hers hijacked by the CDC. We are currently on the wait list for FluMist, but that is iffy at best right now, and only works for otherwise healthy people 5-49. > My understanding, from an article I read in the newspaper, was that the > major company that supplies the U.S. with the vaccine, got shut down by a > foreign government, for reasons that were not clear at all in this article. > > > > Re: flu shots > > > > > > > > > > I take a flue shot. Guest guest
Gee, that's nice. Contamination. And we were worried about getting the flu? Holy cow, something's gonna get us any way we go, that is, if it was contaminated with a bacterium. Come to think of it, this could invoke a very paranoid response in some people, just thinking about the possibilities there. So we get a flu shot to protect ourselves, then maybe end up poisoned? Guest guest
The contamination problems were discovered before any of their vaccine was released. Guest guest
I'm very aware of that, for this time out, but how do we know how many times it WAS distributed without knowing how it was produced? We don't. Just like we always know about the dangers of other " approved " drugs and such only after the fact, after it's killed so many people, or caused them yrs of pain and nightmare, not even knowing what it was that did it to them.
