hair pulling

It seems I recall seeing a documentary on TV about a disorder of hair

pulling. I don't really know the name of it and I'm sorry I can't be

of much help here, but, I'm quite positive I recall an actual

disorder of pulling hair. In fact, one woman that was featured even

pulled out her eyelashes! I don't know what the treatment is other

than therapy, but, perhaps a behavioral psychologist would be more

familiar than I. Good luck in your endeavors!

>My 13 year old daughter pulls her hair out and so far we haven't found a

>treatment. We've tried meds which helped a little, but the side effects were

>too bad so we stopped them. She has bad bald spots and we finally had to cut

>her hair shorter, it was too uneven from her pulling it out. SHe used to

>have thick, long beautiful hair. We are working with a nutritionist now, I

>hope it helps. Our daugher is only 3 years old or so developmentally and her

>OCD is getting worseas she gets older, and consequences don't really work for

>her, she really doesn't seem to be a ble to control it. I think there must be

>a reason for it. The nutritionist does hair analysis and is trying to do

>mineral balance through diet and supplements. I hope it eventually works!!!

my daughter who is 21 and also autisic pulls her hair

out all the time its really difficut knowing what to

do to try and help her as she finds it hard to express

herself, we keep her hair really short(too short for

my liking sometimes) her dad takes her to have it cut

when she is with him he thinks if there is nothing too

get hold of she will get out of the habit,it doesnt

seem to work which he blames me for because he says I

should get it cut more often but I find it hard to go

get her head shaved on a number one

she was put on Seroxat this did nothing to help at all

so she was taken of it.......any help would be

gratefully recieved thanks

In blood tests that were done earlier there was mentioned she had a deficit of Zinc. I read that such deficit can influence behaviour and the development of the brain. Maybe if Zinc works, there is an influence on the behaviour too?

>>Yes, and low zinc is often accompanied by high copper. Giving Zinc will reduce the copper but can cause issues while its doing it. (one displaces the other).

I would try cutting down the dose, continue with food and work up very slowly, the eases things. If you google zinc copper inbalance and autism you'll find loads of stuff.

Maybe these were full moon behaviours, has it stopped now?

Meanwhile my little daughter takes some supplements. Everything went well, untill we started Zinc. She often starts crying and starts pulling her hair again, could there be a connection with Zinc?
