Guest guest
My 8 year old daughter has just recently been weaned off Zoloft. She was only on 25 mg of Zoloft, so the doctor thought she could stop " cold turkey " . I decided to give it to her every other day for a week, and then stopped completely about 4 days ago. At the same time, we have increased her Straterra from 25 mg to 40 mg, because of her growth. Initially, I was giving her the Straterra at night, but since the increase she has had problems (more than usual) with falling asleep. The doctor suggested I try giving her the Straterra in the morning instead. Anyway, with all that being said, she has had bad stomachaches and has felt sick to her stomach since her change in meds. I feel so bad for her, and do not know how to give her relief. Should we expect relief soon?? I feel like just bringing her back down to 25 mg if it means she will feel better. I would almost rather her cope with her ADHD/OCD than have her be in constant discomfort! I cannot get a hold of her doctor for help. Please advise! Guest guest
Hi Jeff, stomach upset during med adjustments/changes is usually temporary, and sometimes simple interventions can help. For example, have you tried giving her her meds on a full stomach, after breakfast for example? It may be coincidence too, and she has a bug that accounts for the stomach upset. Does she have any other symptoms such as fever? Finally, her stomach aches may be due to increased anxiety now that the Zoloft is out of her system. Or perhaps like my child and many others with anxiety disorders, she may be worrying/obsessing herself into a stomach ache that is every bit as " real " as a real one caused by illness. Peppermints help settle my child's stomach, I have no idea if this is " real " or if there is some compulsive or magical belief going on there. Just some things to consider and discuss with her doctor. Take care, Kathy R. in Indiana ----- Original Message ----- > My 8 year old daughter has just recently been weaned off Zoloft.
