It is about how Pirello was diagnosed with severe osteoporosis and had several stress fractures throughout his spine. He had been following an austere macrobiotic diet which was one of the reasons why he developed his condition (not enough fat and protein; good for healing but not for every day living). By changing his diet, going to a physical therapist, and working with a homeopath, he was able to regrow an incredible amount of his bone mass without having to rely on any pharmaceuticals. Hi ,

Thanks for mentioning 's new book. I heard his lecture last week on the "Taste of Health" cruise & just hadn't found the time to post about it. Like you said, his book provides lots of great info. It's also a reminder to everyone to listen to their bodies, rather than dogmatically eating a prescribed diet for years. I applaud The Pirello's for being so open about this situation.

Another great cruise speaker was Dr. Barnard, whose new book "Dr. Neal Barnard's Program for Reversing Diabetes" is ground-breaking research on the value of a low-fat VEGAN diet to fight diabetes! Hopefully his impressive research will lead many to a healthier diet.

As with all good things, these two speakers had slightly differing messages concerning oils & fish. I encourage everyone to read both books and be open-minded for what is best for one's own condition. And of course, as our conditions change, we'll be equipped to adapt our foods. Happy eating :-)
