Guest guest
I was wondering if anybody has tried St. 's Wort as a treatment for OCD for their child? I recently found out about this website. I have a 15 year old son with OCD (pretty severe). He was diagnosed at age 10 after we moved to a new town. Anyway, he has been on Prozac for 5 years and I weaned him off VERY slowly. I'm concerned about long term problems from it and also that it may be stunting his growth. He is very small. He has been off now for 2 months and the OCD is getting to the point where he can't function, at home or in school. When he was on Prozac, he barely had any OCD, I'd say 95% better. I read a study on the internet that St. s Wort , although for depression, can also help OCD. The psychiatrist said Prozac is safer. I don't understand. The psychologist also said Prozac is better because it is FDA regulated. I hate all prescribed drugs. He does need something to take the edge off the constant thoughts and before I put him back on Prozac, as a last resort, I thought I'd post this and find out if anybody had any luck with St. 's Wort and if there were any bad side effects. Any feedback would be appreciated. Boy, this is so hard to live with, to see your child suffer. It's nice that there are other people in the same boat that can understand.
