Guest guest
Yes, my son expresses his frustration in an external way through football and wrestling, where my son Andy internalizes EVERYTHING. To express the differences between the two boys I offer the following: Andy - non-competitive loves to laugh although 15 - has no interest in girls refuses to harm any living thing (this includes bugs and spiders) enjoys shooting targets (targets cannot look like any animals) studies genetics texts extremely patient works with guppies - interbred mosquito fish and pet store guppies (Andy says that they are cousins) creates hybrids of plants (his best so far was a small watermelon that grew in drought conditions and grew literally like a weed - we even tried plowing it under to no avail!) - very competitive is too serious to laugh in public 14 and interested in observing the young ladies with long blond hair and blue eyes (blushes pretty well when this is noted) loves to go hunting enjoys shooting animals for food purposes studies military history, physics, and chemistry has very little patience works with model rockets and makes " rocket cars " for fun 's sixth grade science fair project was the electrolyzer for a hydrogen fuel cell that produced more energy than the preferred lye compound but used only salt water As you can tell the diversity in our house is pretty great. Andy is 6 foot tall and is 5 foot 10 inches tall. Andy is 295 pounds, is 145 pounds (all muscle). Yet both are Aspies and terrific kids - just extremely different personalities. I'm sorry for whatever confusion I may have caused. e Re: Need information > > > > 1. Does he drink a lot of soda pops or orange juice? Guest guest
Tae Kwon Do is aggressive and competitive. The kids compete in fights. I didn't mind doing the forms, but I hated to fight. Aikido is a lot more mellow. Two people work together. One throws, and the other gets thrown four times. Then they switch. It's quite gentle, especially at the beginning stages. It also helps build confidence, and it's great practice for an Aspie to study NT's energy patterns and get a feel for what they're like. Guest guest
Andy sounds like Gregor Mendel, the monk who invented modern genetics by experimenting with different kinds of pea plants. Guest guest
With a personal DVD player, you could walk outside and do Tai Chi that way.VISIGOTH@... wrote: Ken, My parent's tried to get me into karate and tae Kwon do but I was never interested. I wanted to learn to fight, but the problem was all the other kids were bigger than me, even the ones in my age group, and they would all be rougher than usual with me. Instead what I learned was a handful of moves that I can pull off fairly well but they certainly would not pass muster in the dojo since they are quick take downs. It would be nice to have a good dojo so I could get some actual practice, but none of them around here are any good. There is also the point that getting hit activates the "kill light" and makes it increasingly likely that I'll really try to hurt my opponent. So it has been safer to stay away from such things. There are some good video series about Tai Chi. I have tried that from time to time but I don't have the room really to it. There are probably also some good ones on akido as well. FAM Secret Society is a community based on respect, friendship, support and acceptance. Everyone is valued. Don't forget, there are links to other FAM sites on the Links page in the folder marked "Other FAM Sites." If you love something, set it free! So it is with books. (Don't know about trans fats, except that e would already be aware of that.) One issue with sugar is fructose, which doesn't stimulate the body to metabolize it. The first place I'd look (after looking at the easy stuff) would be the interaction of the asthma drugs with metabolism. It may be necessary to change to a different type. It's hard to identify which one is causing the problem because the weight gain is a long term thing. It's also possible to counteract the metabolism effects, but there's no guessing how. Perhaps switching to caffinated tea would do it, but that's a real shot in the dark. It may be that some sort of exercise would be acceptable, although I don't know how someone with asthma would handle the more aerobic exercise routines. - s
