You won't believe this, but I have been trying to get intouch w/ Sydni's

ENT since yesterday(still no luck!!) HE put her on Bactrim from Augmentin

because it was better for long term use. Well, guess what?, She has been

getting worse since being on it. Augmentin worked WONDERS for her! To me, why

switch? The PED won't put her back on till I speak w/ the ENT who I can't get

in touch with! I may put her back on Augmentin since I have 2 refills left.

I've had it w/ all these high & mighty drs. who are too busy!

Sorry, losing track...LOL Some one here wrote that Bactrim is just

different ,in that it treats different bacterias. If I find that post, I'll

send it.

I did try your phone and left a message. I spoke w/ a resident and we

finally decided to put her on a bigger dosage of the Bactrim. She takes 1

tsp. so now she'll try 1 1\2 tsp. for 5 days and see if that helps. Both

resident & pharmacy said no to Augmentin for long term use. Can cause

resistance to bacteria. Bactrim seems to be # 1. Is getting enough?

Also, Augmentin should be used if there is an infection, then put back on

Bactrim for prophylactic use. I am not happy putting all this trust in these

docs, but what choice do I have?! I sure hope they know a little more than

me! I'd love to talk if you ever want. I just cancelled my long distance,

though, because we are moving to Sarasota, Fla. in a month. Let me know about

, if you speak to someone.

Traci, hang on, I understand how you feel. As Sydni goes so goes !

Like you I can see that sinus infection brewing and all I get from doctors

is talk....I wish someone could answer our question about long term

Augmentin use since it seems to be such a miracle drug for Sydni and .

If you need to talk, my cell phone number is . If I can't

answer it there is voice mail. I'm not looking forward to the weekend. I

have some powder Augmentin that I can mix up if I feel the need!

our dr. told us if colton starts showing signs of bactrim not working{which

we are} that we would start ivig. weve done the amoxil with no luck. so im

not sure about children that are already on ivig. ive worked in the pharmacy

business for 7 years and have never heard of augmentin being used as

maintaince. augmentin has never helped colton anyway. we have better luck on

cefzil and ceftin.

LOL, I then left someone a message! That's ok, I know what it is like to be

out of it. I probably will till I know exactly what is causing Sydni's

problems. This resident was actually deciding between 1 1\2 & 1 3\4 tsp. for

her. He first said 2 tsp, twice a day and I thought that was too much. I'm

pretty fed up w/ putting my faith in these doctors! I know I've said this

before. How much does weigh? Maybe he needs a little more? He is a

little older than Sydni, but I know most go by weight. I'll see how she does

in the next few days. If she doesn't improve, I may do Augmentin till I can

talk to the ENT, not the resident. I wish they would show more concern for

these kids and not just throw them on medicine. I get tired of pushing and

fighting to get results! I guess it will be monday by the time you get this

post! I forgot your a work day comp. user!! Hope your weekend was good. We

may hook up our long distance again till we move. If so I'll try to call.

Quick question, when was tested, did his total IGG come back normal?

Did you have subclasses done?

Talk to you soon,

Traci, sorry for the slow reply, it has been a very busy since Monday

morning. I will report that appears to be getting through the nasal

congestion that I feared was going to cause a sinus/ear infection. ( I hope

I haven't jinxed it by saying that!!! ) I had never seen his nose run,

since it was never able to, I guess it just really freaked me to see snot.

That sounds so stupid, but true. It appears that he may just be suffering an

allergy attack and now that his nose can run, the snot doesn't have time to

stay in his sinuses to get infected and it appears the bactrim has kicked in

and is helping. As far as his test counts, I'm not a numbers person and I'm

trying not to live by them. All I know for certain is that his T-cell count

is low and is IgG count is low. Sorry I can't provide more than that. Hope

all is well with you. I can't express how much finding this group has meant

to me and my mental health. Don't know why but there is comfort in numbers

and knowledge.

Talk to you soon,
