Guest guest
I bought a $10 glucose monitor and the "home model" for the thermascan thermometer. The clinical model was like $230 and had a stainless steel neck, but the same "innards". The "home" model is all plastic and $29 at Walmart. It works really well (it is the forehead core temp scan thing) and I figure I can drop it and break it 10 time before the clinical one would be paid for. I also bought a ton of stuff on ebay when I opened 6months ago and saved a ton of money. I don't think you can tell all my stuff was used, it even goes with the decor. I did my mini waiting room and admin areas with stuff from my antique booth and I think it looks awesome. I say buy cheap if possible! Guest guest
The $10 one is too slow. You can get a pretty quick one for about $35, but they don’t last as long as the $200 one. As for Glucometer, if you are willing to deal with them, drug reps will give you some of those. Try your Novo Nordisk rep..Or call the diabetes educator at your hospital and ask them to put you in touch with manufacturers Annie Equipment -Expensive or Budget? Guest guest
Hi Shay,I got top of the line stuff for exam table ( a hulking beautiful recovered beauty that will outlast me) but otherwise I go with the cheap stuff that works for disposable stuff like the tempadots I use for taking temps, disposable anoscopes and speculae. There is an awesome place just over the bridge from you in vancouver that has great medical office equipment - excellent exam tables that he will recover in any color - it is A to Z medical. Let me know if ya need more help.Pamela Greetings All, Wondering people's thoughts on office equipment. Guest guest
Don't forget to ask for equipment from local medical supply companies, especially if you already have a relationship with one or them. I got my nebulizer, tubing and masks, analog scale, height thing and several sizes of BP cuffs from the one I use in town. I got the professional Thermoscan, and I agree that the retail version is likely comparable. I got my exam table for 200 dollars, I think, from a local hospital and a patient picked it up for me on his way to an appointment. I am about to splurge on pelvic exam specula with the light source that fits into the handle. I figure going cheap on something like that is not worth it to my female patients. I will look for a light on Ebay first, then I will look for retail bargains. Charlie lin, NC From: mkcl6@... Date: 2006/07/18 Tue PM 07:08:33 CDT To: Subject: Re: Equipment -Expensive or Budget? Guest guest
BUT, when you order specula, be careful to order the correct model. Welch makes at least two different light sources and the specula are not interchangeable. And don’t count on the sales girl at your supplier who took every other one of your orders to make sure she sends the right one…. Annie Re: Equipment -Expensive or Budget? Guest guest
Definitely recycle. As I was opening, an orthopedic office across the hall was moving to a larger office downstairs. Alot of their stuff did not "fit the decor" and was basically abandoned; my office manager and I went in and had a great time picking through the desks, chairs, waiting room furnishings, coat rack, Xray view box, exam tables, ( even a power model ), exam tray stand, BP wall mounted cuffs, rolling chair floor mats, etc etc etc. We tagged it all we wanted, then I went downstairs and talked to the ortho office manager. She was delighted to be able to "sell" some of the stuff - I offered a low amount: about 1/10 of the new value: and she got it approved by the partners. We rented a shampoo machine to clean the chairs: I restained the woodwork; we re-covered the power exam table and had new cushy pads made for the two other exam rooms. We furnished the entire office for about the price of one exam table. Then I did buy the good thermoscan - it is fast, non-invasive and accurate and very good for the "high tech" image. Pts really can see they are getting the most modern care - but at a relaxed and respectful pace.
