Guest guest
Simon.. I do not disagree with you. I did not mean that consultations fees should be for free by any means of the imagination. I have a problem on some of the counsellors in the amts and the followup amounts and care and the arrogance they have towards the client. But that does not put all counsellors in the same class. Everyone should be paid for their service,no matter what it is. I was in the Boston area during the 60's and 70's and honestly do not remember any consultations being free.I was in a study house in Brookline at that time. They may have , but do not recall. And again, one should be paid for their service. I recall it was more expensive to have a personal consultation at that time vs. a group consultation and that I understand. As a matter of fact I sat in on many of those consultations. I guess throughout the years I have sent people to different counsellors and have had feedback and my goodness it could use some improvement. I also have sent some people to counsellors that have worked with them in their financial situations. That does not mean that they never paid , they did pay the full consultation , but they could pay on a basis that they could afford. To clarify, I sent one person to a counsellor that really had no means. She was barely surviving, asked me for help in her stage 4 Cancer. I called the counsellor and told him some friends, including myself were trying to put together the money for the consultation, plane fare, etc. and would he work with us. He did and that was not a problem. He was paid in full in a couple of weeks, but he saw the client in the meantime, and was wonderful in his care with her including followup. So there is good and bad in everything. The first counsellor I sent her to, would not work with me, and wanted money up front before she got there, which was impossible, so we went elsewhere and it worked nicely, as she is alive today and doing very well. The counsellor knew me, but still would not work with me, which was his perogative. I want to apologize if anyone thought they should not get paid for their service. I just have many issues on consultations that I will keep to myself, including consultations I have had myself throughout the years .
