Hi Bobby,

I was, coincidentally, an ESL teacher in Japan! It was a

transformational experience.

The next best place I visited was Thailand, where my uncle owned an

ESL school. It was VERY tempting to consider living there, but my

boyfriend would have defected for sure. Bangkok was dirty, crowded,

and chaotic, but somehow I felt so comfortable and happy while there.

You'd be quite surprised how much you can make teaching overseas.

The Asian cultures value education and take good care of their

foreign teachers (no rent to pay, for one). I saved a bundle while

in Japan and used that to help launch my macro endeavors when I came

back to HI. You could always parlay the money from not paying rent

into an IRA.

Hey, we have some things in common. I love reading, yoga, & exercise

outdoors too.

Have a good weekend,

Hi Chad,

I do have an MA and that is useful for working in a university. If

you want to teach in one of the language schools (Berlitz, etc) then

it's not necessary, but be warned, those schools are like factories

with conveyer belts. If you go onto that site called something like

Dave's ESL cafe, it posts different jobs all over the world,

including Japan. You might be able to see if a degree is required or

not.

Best,

leslie,

lot's of small coincidences here.

my friend teaches esl in a province called, hua hin, in thailand.

she says they don't pay nearly as well as in bangkok.

this is all very interesting to consider. follow my heart or plan

to have something to retire on? i've never been good at the crystal

ball for my own life. always better at helping others see their own.

sitting in a hotel room tonight with lots of goodies from whole

foods. including trying some wasabi beans - yow, hot!

thank you for sharing your experience.

peace,

bobby

Hi Bobby! Interesting! Something you might never consider helping

with your retirement (like following your heart) might be the best

possible thing ever for loading your IRA. Life is so unpredictable,

and the way we think or believe it will be can surprise us. I

turned down a full time job in Hawaii at a great school that took

forever to get to cast myself into the unknown and was totally

scared. The payback was huge!! Keep your mind open :-)
