Guest guest
the orignal article in the newspaper had pictures with it - most were identifiable - like various bok choyrs an smustard greens. sarah nelsen wrote: wow! tons of greens i've never heard of! not sure if that is because we use different names for some of our produce or not...(ie: jicama.) i don't buy much produce in asian markets cuz it tends not to be organic around here. is it organic in other areas? it is not organic here either but I feel it is very important to get a good variety of leafy greens. I eat mostly organic and biodynamic veggies. Eg carrots and broccoli I will always get organic only but with kohlrabi or jerusalem artichokes etc which are not mass crops I will buy conventional since it is not often available organically grown. we dont get a good variety of organic leafy greens - in winter now there is kale and we get chinese cabbage which I dont really consider a green leafy veg, we have organic bok choy, parsley and others, arugula (rocket). I lover chinese broccoli greens - kinda like collards) I have an ozone generating machine so I put my greens in water and put the ozone tube in the water and ozonate them for a little while to remove the surface sprays and pesticides. it is not ideal as it does not alter the chemicals taken into the plant but I think it is ok you can also use na ultrasonic cleaner. some people recommend bleach baths but I feel this is a very dangerous practise as bleach in all forms is highly carcinogenic and implicated sotrngly in endometriosis etc you can read the tutorial on leafy greens at my blog http://www.energizedeating.com/blog/ Ilanit Tof - Signature Ilanit Ms Ilanit Tof B.A. (Psychophysiology/Psychology) Advanced Diploma Healing with Wholefoods PhD Holistic Nutrition (candidate) Little Tree Oriental Healing Arts Helping you grow to new heights of wellbeing with Oriental Traditions and Modern Nutrition ilanit@... www.littletree.com.au

Guest guest
I agree with Ilanit that variety is important, even if it's not organic. We can't get organic root veges here (but once I saw burdock for $9/lb -- scary). I love rutabagas, brussel sprouts, and some of the chinese and japanese greens too, so i just get them. > > > > > wow! tons of greens i've never heard of! not sure if that is > > > because we use different names for some of our produce or not... > (ie: > > > jicama.) i don't buy much produce in asian markets cuz it tends > not > > > to be organic around here. is it organic in other areas? > > > > > > it is not organic here either but I feel it is very important to > get a > > good variety of leafy greens. > > I eat mostly organic and biodynamic veggies. Guest guest
here burdock is $6.99 a pound. I would love to grow the stuff. It supposedly grows like crazy and only needs dark areas.
