How much should Alpha (10-12Hz) @ C3/C4 swing during training?

(Please forgive the following ignorant ramblings - just trying to make

sense of it all).

I have been doing training @ C3 & C4 to inhibit Alpha (10-12Hz) and

increase Alpha Coherence, which was one of the major features of both

of my Q's, (TLC is next after the Tax Return comes in...).

I took one of the Coherence screens I found in the Files section of

this group, and threw in some Alpha amplitude training as well, and

tweaked some of the graphs/trends/sounds, etc. One of the things I

added was the ability to track both my L/R Alpha amplitudes and

Coherence at the same time. I noticed some pretty interesting

patterns, and wanted to see if anyone could explain some of the

mechanisms going on in my grey matter.

My major problem is that I'm not an " Alpha Head " , but I do have a

pretty big Alpha hot-spot @ C3 & C4, and it has been suggested to me

that it would explain my unescapable daydreaming and wandering mind.

During the training, there were times when I was pretty alert and

focused, and my Alpha amplitudes would be around 4-5u on both sides,

and coherence was about at 60-70%(ish). Dominant freq over the whole

EEG was about 10-11Hz.

Before too long, my mind would start to wander, and I'd see one or

both of the Alpha amplidues creep up in the 10-15u range, and my

Coherence would tank down to the 20-30% range, all within less than 90

seconds. The raw EEG looked like it was being hijacked by Alpha - it

looked like a very tall, sharp, and evenly spaced Sin wave.

With a little struggling and some patience I can usually get it back

down to when I was alert (playing Tetris on the Gameboy also works

pretty quick), but before too long it would start to go out of whack

again and I'd wander. Over 10 minutes, the trends look all over the

place, but the Dominant Freq trend doesn't move from the 10-11Hz range.

My big question is, when the average person gets under stimulated, how

much does their Alpha swing during a session and how quickly?

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what other relationships I

should track with my BE design that might explain the swings?

Is the " Alpha Hijacking " something that can be trained directly, or is

there some weak " Alpha Blocking " mechanism that is interrupted when I

get bored and needs to be trained instead?

Any thoughts or insight would be greatly appreciated, as well as any

research or references to information I could read up on myself.

Thanks,

- Noah
