My daughter, also, has had problems with constipation for years. Her

pediatrician recommended white grape juice. She didn't like the taste,

however, so I have no experience with results!

> Our son has had constipation for 11 years! The results were horrendous (I

won't describe them). We finally figured out it was OCD related. He even

saw a pediatric gastrointerologist and had an MRI! You name it, we've tried

many solutions (before finding out about OCD and being on meds now).

And for a change, a peach or two and if the child likes prunes or dried

apricots, that works too! Now, there's no way to avoid that daily BM.

Boy, we tried all kinds of things for when she was little. She could

wait eleven or twelve days and then it was so awful we never really knew what

to do for her. The doctor suggested mineral oil and we gave it to her

faithfully every single night--to no avail. The doctor then suggested a mild

children's laxative and after receiving three full doses she still wouldn't go!

It

was at that moment that I realized that she was doing it and not her body. She

was almost four at the time and still in diapers. She had suffered from

constipation since she was eighteen months old and we had never attempted to

potty

train her for fear of making it worse. My mom told us to leave her alone and

we did. Eventually, she started getting out of the tub every night to use

the potty--after a rather " unpleasant " episode in the tub involving her older

sister! Looking back, we should have pursued it more aggressively but I didn't

see it as a mental condition. We still have to remind her that the longer she

waits the worse it gets. Kelley in NV
