Good luck tomorrow and yes I know how you feel about missing her head. I

have been thinking that I will miss it too. With the DocBand we will be able

to rub the top of their heads though.

is 6 mos old and today was the first time I was able to get her to

really really giggle. I found her ticklish spot around her waist and ribs

and she just belly laughed. Of course, this accomplishment will go in the

book with all of the others 'firsts' :)

(aren't they the cutest little things you have ever seen in your life?)

Hi Becky, I don't think you're nuts for " mourning " over the loss of

seeing/touching your little one's head; I'm feeling that way lately myself.

My son Kenny is just about 6mos old and will be getting his helmet on

Thursday. I've been fine with the whole thing until recently I've been a

little mopey -- I guess things have calmed down and reality is hitting home.

Plus, my little guy likes to affectionately " head butt " my forehead (once he

gets his helmet, I'll probably be walking around bruised). I feel selfish

sometimes for feeling sad about it, since there are so many kids out there

with things that are so much worse, and can't be treated -- but I do.(PMS

probably doesn't help either). I'm glad to know that someone else is

" mourning " over the loss of snuggling their little one's head. Take care,

Michele and Kenny 4/19/00

I'm going to miss seeing the

whole thing and being able to rub her head and talk to her.

Becky:

Don't worry, before you know it, you'll be kissing and stroking the

band like it was her "real" head! It doesn't take too long to get

used to.

Well, tomorrow is the big day - gets her DOC band.

Our appt. is

at 11:00. is a little over 5 months old. She

LOVES to wear hats,

so I'm hoping and praying that she'll adjust well (and quickly)

to

having the band. I'm also hoping and praying that mommy adjusts

well

and quickly. I've stood over her crib on and off all night

just looking

at her little head, and thinking how much I'm going to miss seeing

the

whole thing and being able to rub her head and talk to her.

It's almost

like I'm in mourning for the loss of the next 4 months - anybody

know

what I mean, or am I just going crazy? I know we're doing

the right

thing - I just wish we didn't have to do it.

Anyway, please keep us in your prayers tomorrow, and also on Saturday

-

and I were supposed to have a formal "madonna" portrait done

today

(me all dressed up in a black drape thing, her basically naked!),

but we

had to reschedule for Saturday (oops). I'll have to take

her band off

for it, so we'll have to time it just right. I'm hoping once

her band

is off she'll be happy long enough (assuming she's having trouble

adjusting) so that the photographer can get some good shots!

Speaking of portraits (and totally off the subject of

plagio/bands/helmets), we had 's pic taken Tuesday at The

Picture

People - have any of y'all used them? They were GREAT.

She was cranky,

so they didn't get one single smile out of her, but the pics are

still

wonderful. We had one done in her halloween costume (she's gonna

be a

bumblebee), and she stuck one finger in her mouth and the photographer

got it - and it's adorable! Anyway, if you ever want pics

taken, I'd

recommend them!

I feel the same as all of you - very sad not to be able to see my son's head

and will miss stroking and kissing it. He is 7 months and we will be going

to have the casting done soon. Am praying this whole experience will not be

too hard on the baby and on US.

So glad we have this support group.

One question for everyone - I'm guessing the DOC bands are lightweight.

Since my son Cade will be in process of learning to crawl and possibly walk

during this time - I am concerned that the helmut might hinder this - do any

of you have any advice??

Michele,

Yes, get ready for the bruises!!! My son, Hunter, is also into the head butting thing! It's so cute but can hurt, he just laughs and laughs!

Don't feel selfish about loving your child. We all want the best for our little angels and when we are thrown a curve ball, no matter how big or small, it makes us sad!!!

Dory, Don't worry it won't make them tip. My son has been attempting his

walking and it has actually saved his head more than once. Belinda
