Hi Adair, (and Everyone!)

Thanks for your really nice email. I don't know much about ocd except what

I've found online in the past few weeks. I am surprised when you write:

>>manifesting in different ways, such as troubling thoughts, perfectionism,

nailbiting,

hairpulling, etc. My brother was a hoarder. He still is, to a degree, but

now it's big ticket items like cars and such.

Perfectionism is a big thing with me and my 9 yr old. I hadn't thought of

this as an ocd symptom. And hoarding cars makes me laugh as my dh does this.

With 7 cars, hundreds of bottles of cologne and a hundred pair of shoes, I am

always telling him he must have been deprived of these three things when he was

young. Now it makes me wonder....

About my son crying, he cries when he loses a piece of dust he was holding.

This happens all day long. He will tell me he's lost something. He had it in

his hand and he must have dropped it. We sort of solved this problem at home by

vacuuming every day (probably not the right thing to do but this has made it

so much easier on my two teens...they no longer have to step around the places

where young ds has lost something). But when we are out and he loses

something, he is in a total panic searching for whatever he dropped. He'll start

crying

and usually this brings around the security and manager of the store because

he's in such a panic. At that point, he doesn't care whose watching. <sigh

Right now he is on the floor behind me, saying his stomache hurts. Today is a

school day (we homeschool through a charter school, so he takes some

classes). Yesterday he told me he was scared to attend because of his ocd, but

he

attended two weeks ago and we explained his hoarding to the teachers. He really

likes his classes today so I'm not sure what's bothering him today. This ocd

thing is so confusing and really wearing. I am just exhausted trying to deal

with

it.

Thanks again for your email and hopefully ds will give me some time later to

answer more emails.

Debbi
