I have looked into many. For many years i did like Jurlique - made here

in australia but now taking the world by storm.

there are many that have some okay products.

but I have been most impressed with Miessence - the worlds first

certified organic range.

I came across the CEO Narelle Chenery when she was blending her stuff

in her kitchen in birsbane australia. Sh stuck to her ideals and has

never compromisd. Now they are a multimillion dollar global phenomenon

and i still feel excited about how they are developing. she is so down

to earth and still emails me and listens to my ideas and suggestions.

there is a link to their new site with tons of cool info on skin care

and inner health care at my website

www.littletree.com.au

they are even doing totally natural cosmetics which are lovely.

the lemon myrtle shampoo is my favourite right now.

Hello and Klara,

I have been using the Dr Hauschka brand for skin care. He was inspired by Rudolph Steiner and developed a complete philosophy on skin care. The products are all made from natural flowers etc grown organically by the company. They claim that just as important is the way we use the products as the quality of the lotions. They go into great detail on how we should NOT scrub the face – essentially due to the muscles being only connected at one point and altering the PH balance of the skin. They recommend hot and cold washes to increase the production of collagen. It is an interesting approach that was developed over many years using rigorous testing and worth looking into. I have found it helps people with acne rosatia, dry skin and some rashes.

I take your point about just using food. That can work but inevitable we will be effected by different climates. I think we all notice the difference between wet and dry climates and it is easy to see the long term effect on the people living there. We tend to live in such unnatural environments – dry air conditioned climates, air pollution, sun that has passed through a thinner ozone layer..... And therefore a little risky to assume it will all work out for everyone with good food. The face scrubbing is worth researching and I felt convinced by the theory and practice to stop scrubbing. In the end if you are happy with your skin and feel that whatever you do will work in the long term stay with it, otherwise research, experiment and let us know. We are all different.

I hope this helps,

Simon

Hi There

I do find the skin care discussion very interesting because way back when I

worked in cosmetics. At the time I wasn't convinced at all by the hype around

creams that fade age spots and creams that reduce wrinkles etc. I was thrilled

when I found out about macrobiotics and really believe that great skin can be

maintained from within. I also feel that climate, work environments and

pollution effect the skin greatly. A damper climate seems to be more gently on

the skin and thus the reputation for the English' peaches and cream' complexion.

I hear what Simon is saying about scrubbing the face but to be honest I do give

my skin a light rub on a daily basis because I feel it brings energy to the

surface and improves circulation. I like to use water on my face and a light

moisteriser by Heritage Products called Lavender and Roses because it only has a

few ingredients such as olive oil and rosewater and is very cheap at $4.95. My

experience in the cosmetic world makes me know that more expensive is not

necessarily better. I also use witch hazel as a toner now and again which is

also very inexpesive. I do think it is important to buy cosmetics that are

paraben free but really I think they all pretty much do the same thing and in

fact olive oil is probably just as good as the most expensive one out there!!!

On the diet front plenty of fresh greens, lightly cooked dishes, carrot juice

and pressed salad help to keep the skin youthful and fresh while salt, baked

foods, crackers, cookies etc can make it more dry and too much oil and nut

butters can make it clogged. In the cold months I think it is a good idea to

give the body a gentle self massage with oil to keep the skin in good condition.

I do recommend the body rub and used it throughout all my pregnancies and have

no stretch marks as a result. The idea isn't to take your aggression out on your

skin but lightly rub it until it becomes pinkish red. If anyone is interested I

wrote an article on the body rub and I can post it. I also use a salt scrub

which I find fantastic for my skin and is a combination of sea salt, vegetable

oils and essential oils. I think it combines envigorating/exfoliating with

nourishing from the oils. Sea salt baths are also good for those who work with

clients or are around lots of people coz it helps to clean any negative energy.

Have a beautiful day

Many blessings

Hi Lesley,

Yes I agree in the main but there are people who suffer from skin problems, including some eating macrobiotically, and we cannot then put it all down to diet (although normally a big influence). I like to be open to the idea that someone eating macrobiotically and who still feels the need to help his or her skin could benefit from appropriate skin care. We can then explore different products, ways of application, to be able to provide the best advice.

If you are happy with your skin there is less relevance in putting applications on your skin especially as some could even turn healthy skin into problem skin, not to mention find their way into our blood.

All the best,

Simon

I think, too, that part of getting nice products for skin care is

just another way to pamper yourself and feel good about yourself,

just like getting a massage. It's fun and for a woman, can make you

feel more womanly! If you need more good quality yin energy in your

life, that would be a good way....

Hi Simon,

Oh yes, I agree, truly!

What do you think are the other things that lead to skin problems if

not related to diet? (climate, genetics, health of the organs, ??).

I do better with less skin care products. They often cause

breakouts -- same with makeup. Au natural is better in my case.

It looks like my original posting went somewhere into the ether.

sorry if this becomes a repeat posting.

In that message, I was saying, with Reggie's and 's approval, of

course, " let's give you an ipod per child for no stretch marks. "

it's so encouraging and inspiring!

the salt scrub sounds like a gorgeous thing to do. is this a

product you purchase, or do you make your own? if so, is there a

recipe you would share?

do you suppose going into the ocean would suffice if there is no way

to do a salt bath at home?

hope you're well. leslie

Hello ,

Many of the clients I have find that skin problems relate to stress, getting worse at times of stress. This could suggest it is an issue of the PH of the skin as we tend to secrete more acid under stress. Some women find their skin becomes more vulnerable leading up to menstruation which would indicate a reaction to hormones. Other hormones are said to be responsible for acne during teenage years. So two other possible causes would be acidity and hormonal changes.

As we get older our skin changes and become less tolerant to the sun etc. Other possibilities would be genetics, sunburn, poor quality cosmetics. I’m sure I could think of some more if I thought about it!

Best wishes,

Simon

i find the stress and hormone thing true for me. That makes

sense. Certain soaps and lotions will cause that to happen too.
