Guest guest
I think it will, Adam-It was great meetng you. Email me if you have questions. And keep looking for cheap space. I am so appreciative of being a part of the convocation. I learned much besides the humorous fact that Wasson is not crazy ! But honestly last night talking with some of the IMP's I was bothered by something....it came at me slowly and then this morning was confirmed...my business plan was wrong, to alittle to lofty on both collections and to heavy on overhead....the balance of which grounds the flight - for some re tooling. I'm committed to the IMP'ing, so clearly the kind of medicine I want to practice...talking with the group and hearing some of their issues - a wide variety of them, solidified the model as my own...now the trick is to retool the business plan....I am humbly grateful I came and saw and heard.....and ran through that preflight check list. More later - this bird will fly! Adam Schwarz MDEtna NH

Guest guest
Adam, Since I'm in the almost launch phase (Nov. 1), I'm curious what you learned that made you feel it would be better to wait. Was it mostly financial concerns? Feel free to reply on or off list. Thanks, Sharon ---- Guinn wrote: > I think it will, Adam- > It was great meetng you. > Email me if you have questions. Guest guest
I am not going to wait per se - my plan is May 1 07; the caution was in my business plan that assumed I could afford the HUGE space I am preparing to sign on to....Gordon - in his failure mode warnings suggest ~<1200 square feet of real estate...my space, though cheap is 2700 s f, and necessitates a subleaser...that element is the one that makes me flinch....on the otherhand I am quite hopeful all will fly on schedule. I also plan to maintain my flow of ~18 patients a day - not totally imp'y...but have a large home overhead ( four kids etc). Good luck! Guest guest
Woo-hoo!! It was so great meeting you all. I'm starting tomorrow and I just came back from a last minute trip to IKEA for supplies with my 2 year old. He picked out the kid size furniture and toys for the sitting area. As he sleeps, I am frantically putting together my practice policies. Does anyone know if the "HIPAA NOTICE OF PRIVACY PRACTICES" has to be its own signature page or can I add the HIPPAA statement to other stuff that I am having the patient sign? I'm sure that I will have many more questions soon. Thank you all so much and I am so excited to be involved. Guest guest
Moitri,Rather than make patients sign in 3 different locations (like I used to do), I now lump it all under one statement and have them sign once (sample below). "I authorize the release of any of my medical information necessary for care or treatment or to process an insurance claim. I also authorize my insurance benefits, if any, to be paid directly to Seto, MD or the South Pasadena Family Practice Medical Office. I acknowledge receipt of the Notice of Privacy Practices for the South Pasadena Family Practice Medical Office and that I may obtain a paper copy of this Notice of Privacy Practices upon request."I also used to hand out a copy of my Privacy Statement to everyone and realized it was a waste of time and paper, so now I just show them a laminated copy of the Privacy Practices. Only 1 person has asked for a paper copy since then.Congratulations on opening your new practice and best wishes for your success! SetoSouth Pasadena, CAWoo-hoo!! It was so great meeting you all. Guest guest
Moitri, I don't know specifically, but we compiled alot of signatures on a page, too. Just the obvious ones that you know everyone is going to sign anyway. We are into our second week - still pulling 15hour days - yuck- but things really are going well. Avg. 10-15/day but Mike's practice was only 5 miles away and we moved to a town with 5 phamacies and no doctor. We are trying to streamline our systems so we can get out of here sooner and things really are getting better. The most rewarding thing is dealing with pts as they come in the door, like they have geared themselves for battle, and having them leave hugging everyone in sight. This really is a better product! If we could just get home.... Thanks again to everyone who helped us get here, Kari (and Mike) Re: preflight check list Adam,Since I'm in the almost launch phase (Nov. 1), I'm curious what you learned that made you feel it would be better to wait. Guest guest
Adam, It's great that you had the opprtunity to "pick our brains." One of the discussion threads that came from Thursday evening was how to create an IMP start up manual. I am glad that we had a chance to speak. Look forward to hearing about your new beginning. Guest guest
Speaking of IMP start up manuals, I have mentioned in the past setting up a "Wiki" which is a collaborative website where anyone can add or edit information. Basically a "How to" manual that we can write ourselves. The most well-known example of a Wiki is Wikipedia (http://www.wikipedia.com). Anyways the Ideal Health Wiki is located at: http://idealhealth.wikispaces.com/ if you want to look at it. It is still pretty empty, but the framework is there. However, thanks to Gwen Hanson, the Ideal Health Wiki will be moving to a larger host at Wikia, which is affiliated with Wikipedia. It will probably be renamed the Ideal Micropractice Wiki in keeping with the new nomenclature. Wikia may be able to help promote the site, but that's for the future. For now, we need more content. We have so much useful information on this listserve, it would be helpful to post some of the more useful (and repeatedly asked for) information in a central place. Guest guest
Matt,I found this link which says laminating the Notice of Privacy Practices is acceptable: http://www.healthdatamanagement.com/portals/article.cfm?type=government & articleId=9008"The session also will focus on tips to minimize the cost and hassle of compliance. For instance, a physician practice can laminate a half-dozen copies of its privacy notice and pass them out to patients to read in the office, and have paper copies for patients who want to take the notice home. Or, a practice can have a "privacy notice recycle" box for patients to drop the notices in if they don't want to take them."Also the sample Notice of Privacy Practices from Family Practice Management (http://www.aafp.org/fpm/20030200/29theh.html#box_e) says:"Our practice will post a copy of our current Notice in our offices in a visible location at all times, and you may request a copy of our most current Notice at any time."and"6. Right to a paper copy of this notice. You are entitled to receive a paper copy of our notice of privacy practices. You may ask us to give you a copy of this notice at any time. To obtain a paper copy of this notice, contact [insert name or title and telephone number of a person or office to contact for further information.]"I interpret this to mean that I don't have to give each patient a separate physical piece of paper. I just have to make it available in case they want to see it or take it home. Does your attorney have any documentation that says each patient needs to be given a separate Notice of Privacy Practices (which most throw away anyways)? Guest guest
RE Copy privacy notice We just ended up with the "sign in clipboard (real high tech, sorry)" having a paper copy of the privacy policy attached. Mostly nobody takes it with, and just have it on the bottom of the pile with the other new pt documents.
