Chip Dopson is president of Chisolm Biological Laboratory (CBL) in South Carolina, has been a pioneer in the Transfer Factor field for more than two decades, and his lab produces high-quality Transfer Factor products that are on the forefront of a new era in immune system support. Mozelle What is the filler in the capsule? ChipD: Mozelle the fillers in the capsule are lactobacillus cultures. Mozelle: Are the lactobacilli in FOS? ChipD: Mozelle, no. Mozelle: Or lactose? ChipD: Mozelle - The lactobacillus are grown on a milk-free substrate. Mozelle: Are you going to say what it is, for those of us with severe allergies? ChipD: Mozelle - the milk-free substrate is a purchased product which documents that this media does not contain any milk products whatsoever and they are hypoallergenic. Question directed to Chip Dopson: Lonnye: Where can I get information to give my doctor about transfer factor. Is it something prescribed by a doctor and does insurance cover it? ChipD: Lonnye, there are over 3000 publications on TF which are accessible thru Medline. Travelers and Blue Cross/Blue Shield have been known to cover TF as immune support products. Question directed to Chip Dopson: : How do folks benefit by using TF? ChipD: - I believe TF is helpful in supporting the immune system when coupled with a full circle of treatment (appropriate diet; appropriate nutritional supplementation; and detox of heavy metals which encumber the immune system.) : How soon could I expect to see before any improvement? ChipD: , again, most people see an immediate response via the herxheimer response (die off). However, a significant difference can usually be seen the first month. Question directed to Chip Dopson: Mozelle: Are you still doing commercial blood testing? ChipD: Mozelle - we have never done commercial blood testing. Question directed to Chip Dopson: Englishlady: What kind of process is used to get the transfer factors? ChipD: Englishlady, the processes for TF depends upon its derivation. From colostrum or blood in which case both require purification procedures some of which are published and some of which are proprietary. Question directed to Chip Dopson: : Why is 4Life's Transfer Factor so much less expensive than ImmuneTransfer C or the TF560 products? ChipD: - the purification procedures and processes of ImmuneTransfer C and 4Life vary significantly. ChipD: - another point is that 4Life is unspecific TF whereas Immune Support C is receptor specific. Question directed to Chip Dopson: Mozelle: Some of the reports of your work have said that commercial testing was how you financed the purchase of your equipment? ChipD: Mozelle - the reports stated we worked in the field of animal blood purfication and processing, some of which were used commercially (Becton Dickinson) for bacterial idenfication, but we are not a testing lab. Mozelle: In fact, At CBL over the last twenty-some years, Dopson's mainstay has been the processing of animal blood plasmas and other blood products for customers such as Becton-Dickinson (the largest manufacturer of medical diagnostics and microbiological reagents) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). ChipD: Mozelle - that is correct we manufactured for CDC and BD. Question directed to Chip Dopson: Englishlady: Will transfer factor help me if I just want to build up my long term immunity? ChipD: Englislady - TF should help support overall immune sufficiency. Question directed to Chip Dopson: Mozelle: Are you still doing animal blood processing? ChipD: Mozelle - blood processing and purification, yes for 26 years. Question directed to Chip Dopson: adam8: when taking TF I take it that a patient will feel worse before feeling any benefits. If this is the case how long should a patient wait before feeling the benefits? ChipD: Adam8, yes one feels worse at first because the immune system recognizes the antigens in the product and addresses them, and these dead and dying antigens are in the blood stream which causes one to feel bad. However, taking a macrophage supporting product, like Beta glucan, can help circumvent this response in my experience. Question directed to Chip Dopson: cfidsto: when you say 'receptor specific' what does that mean? ChipD: CFIDSTO - receptor specific recognition of a specific entity or antigen. Question directed to Chip Dopson: Mozelle: My doctor, an infectious disease specialist, does not believe your TF is safe if you are still processing blood. He says you'd need to have a separate lab, to avoid things like prion contamination. Is this a legitimate concern? ChipD: Mozelle - TF is quite safe and prions are only a question when it is derived from colostrum. The facility is set up where there is no cross- contamination. ChipD: Mozelle - by the way, our product is consistently tested for prions. Question directed to Chip Dopson: Englishlady: Do you stay on a maintenance dose or come on and off it? ChipD: Englishlady - yes, the memory is documented to last for a period of 3 months Question directed to Chip Dopson: Mozelle: Why are prions a problem with colostrum and not with blood? I've been told there's no blood test for prions. How do you test? ChipD: Our biochemist tells us differently, it is tested in Europe and they are the ones who have many issues with prions. Question directed to Chip Dopson: jaime: Is transfer factor costly because of the patents on it? ChipD: jaime, it is costly because of highly specialized production. Question directed to Chip Dopson: adam8: Though I understand you cannot be specific how long should a person take TF before expecting to feel some benefits, i.e. 3 months? I ask this because I have bad reactions to expensive products before with no benefits. ChipD: adam8 - actually, I would expect one month providing you are supporting yourself with proper diet, nutrition, etc. : I want to try TF but should I stop taking the other supplements I am currently using? ChipD: - if they are working for you, then absolutely not; to attain good health requires a full circle of treatment. Question directed to Chip Dopson: Englishlady: I had a question earlier - are there any side effects with other medications such as heavy dose antibiotics or other immune modulating drugs? ChipD: Englislady, there are no knownn side effects of TF with other medications. Question directed to Chip Dopson: : If I take the product, when would I expect to feel the herxing affect? ChipD: yes if you select the appropriate formula, but you can circumvent the herx or at least alleviate it by taking significant doses of beta glucan 1 to 2 grams daily. Question directed to Chip Dopson: : When do I take TF - in the am or pm or with meals? ChipD: - can actually take it anytime, but it is recommended am, open cap and place contents under tongue and absorb sublingually. Question directed to Chip Dopson: Englishlady: How important is it to keep it refrigerated? ChipD: Englishlady - since the material does not contain any preservatives and also it is heat labile (heat-sensitive), we recommend refrigeration. Question directed to Chip Dopson: cfidsto: Do you think the cost will go down as more sells? ChipD: cfidsto - at this point I do not think so since our products are continually upgraded to include additional isotypes. Question directed to Chip Dopson: Englishlady: Do you recommend having your doctor follow along as you take TF? ChipD: Englishlady - always have your health care practitioner follow your treatment program and tell them everything you are taking - it is a good practice. Question directed to Chip Dopson: Mozelle: Has anyone compared the effectiveness of ImmuneTransferC and Formula 560? ChipD: Mozelle - we have not personally tested it. Mozelle: Are there any clinical trials using your product? ChipD: Mozelle - not presently but we have offers. Mozelle: Do people pay you to do clinical trials, or do you pay them? ChipD: Mozelle - we do not pay nor have we been paid. Question directed to Chip Dopson: Englishlady: Where can we read the anectodal data on TF - do you have this published anywhere? ChipD: Englishlady, we are presently compiling this info due to extraordinary requests and we do have published abstracts and paper. Question directed to Chip Dopson: bluefog: What if you are on an extraordinary amount of medications you cannot drop? ChipD: bluefog, maintain the medications until you do not have the need, while you are unencumbering the immune system. bluefog: Chip, sorry I have no idea how to do that..... maybe I missed too much.... ChipD: bluefog, it is difficult to answer your question, but working with a health care practitioner who is cognizant of immune support via TF and other modalities could perhaps successfully help you to achieve this. Question directed to Chip Dopson: bunny: Many doctors aren't so openminded to 'alternative therapies.' Do you recommend seeing a homeopathic? ChipD: bunny - more and more each day there are MDs who integrate allopathic and alternative medicine, there are lists available as I understand and they also attend conferences geared to integrative medicine. ChipD: bunny - I myself go to a homeopathic MD. Prohealth911: Unfortunately, we are out of time. Thank you for joining us for our chat today with Chip Dopson of Chisolm Biological Labs.
