Guest guest
Hi . ERP is Exposure / Response Prevention. In essence, a technique of exposing the person to his fear, a very little at a time, until he becomes desensitized to it. The book will explain in detail. Our therapist is a psychologist, phd. She uses March's manual for therapists (How I Ran OCD off my Land - or something like that.) I believe March is considered to be the 'godfather' of cbt. You can google him. It's important to ask your potential therapist if they're trained and experienced with cbt and erp, and with working with children. Re the 15 weeks, the first therapist (who we went to for assessment) also had a similar timeframe in mind. She uses a 12-week structured program. She was a psychologist too. This is a matter of opinion, but I was advised to go with a psychologist as opposed to a psychiatrist. Typically, a psychiatrist prescribes meds but doesn't do therapy. Good luck finding someone. BTW, I got Chansky's book online at chapters.ca (I'm in Cda). Wasn't stocked in the actual store. Mo
